We Are The Strange: Strange Indeed

We Are The Strange is a film by director M dot Strange, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and was released back in 2007. It’s unique, to say the least, because it was shot all in St8inme; a technique that makes the entire movie look like some sort of wild video game.

I bought the DVD a while back, after reading about it in “Wired” magazine, but just dug it out of a box, and started watching it again. It may not be my favorite movie of all time, but it’s still definitely worth checking out. The animation that was used is remarkable, and is really nothing like I have ever seen before.

If the animation wasn’t enough to draw you in, the movie offers six different soundtracks, all of which sound like they came straight out of the 8-bit era. It’s truly all truly badass.

The story is about a girl who gets thrown out of her city by, we’ll say, an evil ruler. The she meets a doll in the woods who desperately wants ice cream, so they go back to the city to get ice cream and end up fighting ginormous monsters. If it all sounds strange, it is… but the title of the movie is We Are the Strange, so deal with it. Seriously though, the movie is impressive to watch, and if you’re brave enough it will most likely be the most interesting $20 you’ve ever spent.
