Ask The Heroes Of Newerth Developers A Question - Get A Free Beta Key

Heroes of Newerth

The very generous folks over at S2 Games have given us a couple of great opportunities. First of all, they are allowing us to do a Q&A with the team that worked on their upcoming game, “Heroes of Newerth.” Secondly, they gave us a whole chunk of beta keys to give away. So, we thought we would pass on their generosity to you.

If you would like get a key to join the “Heroes of Newerth” beta, all you need to do is comment on this post with a question you’d like us to ask the S2 team. We’ll then collect the best of the best, and get them answered for you. In return, you’ll get a beta key emailed to you. Sound like a good deal? Yeah, we thought so too.

The only catch is that you need to comment on the post with your real email address, so we can email the key to you. Don’t worry, we won’t share them with anyone you don’t want us to.

I have never played DOTA, but I think I’m getting addicted to HoN. This is such an awesome game. Everything looks so colorful and detailed in the game. What graphic engine do you guys use? Is it the same engine like Warcraft 3?

I’m a noob player in HoN and I have never played DOTA before. The majority of people who plays HoN comes from DOTA which means they are pro and experienced players.
I made a noob game several days ago and got a game going but what I found out later was that none of the players there were NOOB.
    So my question is:
How are you planning to seperate the new players and pre-DOTA player?

It’s very frustrating when you are playing the game for the first time and you have to play against people who played this game for 5 YEARS or more.
The solution I thought is dividing game into different leagues. Noob league/Pro league.
Anyways that’s all I have in mind. Please send my friend a beta invite.

I have played DoTa for a few years but I have several family members and friends who will start playing once this game is released. From my understanding your win/loss ratio is saved and viewable by people once you join games.

My question is will there be a way to hide your stats (Win/Loss)? The community is very harsh and I can foresee them being booted from games due to their inexperience and likely poor record

Will the finished product of Heroes of Newerth have different servers? For example, a US server, a Europe Server, etc. as to deal with lag, or even a Low level ranking server for the beginner players and High level ranking server for pro or experienced players?

Will new heroes be constantly added like it is in DotA? Also, will there be terrain changes as an option in the game? I hear from some beta testers that the terrain can make novice players lose track of their hero, so will there be an option to change terrain like how Icefrog incorporated, in an older version, an icy terrain option (for versatility of visuals)?

Will there be different “Use Map Settings” maps or map editor programs so there will be more variety of games other than only the HON game? The normal WC3 has countless UMS maps other than Dota, allowing people to take a break from Dota inbetween. Will HON also incorporate this usage of UMS maps in case the audience becomes tired of HON and wants to try new games out?

I know that you are recording the number of leaves a person acquires, but do these leaves degrade over time?

Having a permanent stain of being a “leaver” even after leaving only a few times back when you first started would be a deterrent for new players.

Does it have a single player campaign or something?
Is the whole gameplay like what DotA is suppose to be?
How many players can play in the game?

    Hello.

    My questions for suggestion are:

Will games be balanced out during late-game? I’ve found in DotA that one late-game hero can take up to 3 players. It would be good to find a balance in HoN that requires players to work together in late-game.

What is different about this game that will attract players over WC3: DotA, and League of Legends (another competitor based off of DotA).?

Are there other modes of gameplay within HoN?

I’d really like to see how this game compares to LoL, so I’m patiently awaiting a beta key. Thanks!

What’s the max number of players in a game. It would be pretty epic to have a larger map and more than 5 v 5, though those games go on forever already anyway.

Are there going to be maps with multiple teams? That would be interesting as well.

Also will stats like move speed, attack speed, regen, mana regen, etc. be visible (a.k.a have a numerical display somewhere on the UI)?

Are servers going to split up or will there be regional ones like bnet does?

finally, who’s writing the soundtrack? =)

    Hello.

The basic gameplay for DotA was that there was 3 lanes, and a base at the end of each lane, and you had to push through the lanes and destroy the main base of the faction. This seems to remain intact in Heroes of Newerth.

However, I am curious, do you have any plans to create different gametypes for different maps? Such as King of the Hill.

Will it be run like the old style of MSN Gaming Zone, in that people will join lobby rooms outside of the game in a fashion suitable to that of a lobby, then everyone joins the game in a timely manner, and the host creates the game based on settings outlined in the lobby name and description??

Are there going to be corrupt moderators and admins that will force the new users to stop signing up due to the fear of corruption and animosity put forth by companies like Sulake (for Habbo Hotel) or Jagex (for RuneScape)?

How will the moderators / administrators among players in terms of mediation be selected? — will it be a meritocracy or an autocracy in terms of who is chosen?? — do you believe that the person suited for the job should get the job, or whoever you think you like the best should get the job??

Heroes in Dota have their own story and that is what make it more intriguing, for example King Leoric He is the King of Tristam gone insane when his son was killed on the Church Cellar by Pudge…
The Phrase “Fresh Meat” also comes from Diablo. See where I’m going? Does the Hero In Heroes of Newerth are back-up with their own unique stories or was like a T-shirt with slap on Character????

By just mentioning dota in your ad the interest sky rocketed.

Can HoN fill in the needs for balance gaming which Icefrog been trying to do for the past years that he developed Dota???

I’ve been playing DotA for a long time now and this game looks great I can’t wait, for the most obvious questions everybody wants to know is when is the expected release date of this game? How much will it cost? Will there be constant updates? Will the transition from DotA to HoN be a easy one? Will there be a system that will help players have more of an incentive to not leave the game during the middle, that seems to be the biggest problem in DotA, people end up becoming frustrated and leaving the game, will there be some sort of system to keep all games kicking and going all the way to the end? Will there be a voice enabled chat system as well as just typing? Will there be a easy system of joining games and filtering through game modes? Will there be a way to prevent people like hosts from screwing up and not putting in the game mode? Will there be a fun clan system for which will help keep the community going in other ways other than pub games? Please send me answers or a cd key so I can figure it all out myself! thanks! I’ve been a stragety game follower ever since I migrated from FPS games to them, and if you know anything about stragety games you know what BnB (bread and butter) and CC (cookie cutter) builds are for these types of games.

Coming from a hardcore DotA player’s point of view, DotA’s heroes all hard their own cookie cutter builds, Treant with refresher, Razor with Maelstrom etc. In HoN, are the heroes going to be determined by their gear and have BnB gear sets, or will things be more interchangable and heroes will be ok without BnB builds?

In DotA people decide how good a player is by their skill / items, so in HoN hopefully items won’t have a big factor on how good someone can be with a certain hero.

I’ve seen the game played, and one of reasons for the new engine I’ve read is to break away from the restrictions set by the Warcraft 3 engine. From what I’ve seen however, most of the game is a carbon copy of Dota. How do you intend to set yourself apart from Dota in the future and take advantage of a much more capable engine?

I’m very excited about the featuers the HoN has that DOTA doesn’t. I’m curious to see how easy it will be to have several friends join the same game as one party. Will there a setting for matchmaking that will allow this?

I love DotA and am extremely excited about Heroes of Newerth. Will there be player stats and tournament play online? Also, will the game continuously add content as the game progresses?

    Thanks

Will HoN be free or p2p? Also will I get 360 degree camera angles?

I have been playing DotA since I bought Frozen Throne 2 years ago, and I have enjoyed so much. I love the gameplay, it doesn’t require too much “no lifing” to learn how to play it, but of course, if you want to learn every hero in the game, as well as all the items, it’s gonna take a while.
I’ve seen couple videos about HoN, and it truly is like DotA. I have been thinking that how do you guys balance the game? DotA has some overpowered heroes, which sometimes annoy very much, so how are you going to ensure that the heroes are pretty balanced? I know it’s impossible that all the heroes are evenly matched, but have you been able to balance the game so that no, let’s say, strength hero is clearly overpowered when compared to another strength hero? This is maybe the only question I have in mind right now.

Ok, so Im pretty descent at dota and have been playing it for a while, I was really excited when I heard about Demigod, a stand alone game like Dota?? Could it be any good?? NO! Demigod was uneven, slow paced, ran horribly, and was just an overall POS game. How stardock managed to screw it up sooo bad I will never know. Now along come S2, with a couple great games under their belt a company that has already proven themselves. They get smart though, they dont try to recreate dota from scratch, they buy dota off icefrog, for how much, who knows. Then build it up, recreate the heros on a much newer engine, making them all look pretty bad ass from the videos I’ve seen. The map looks exactly the same, the interface looks sharp, heros are looking good, graphics great. I will say I am surprised that blizzard themselves didn’t pick up dota stand alone, but with D3 and SC2 and WoW, well they have their hands full. At the moment S2 looks like they are doing great job on staying to the traditional DOTA style that we all know and love. I cant wait for the game to be fully developed and released.

I would love a beta key if anyone has one. Email me

    Thanks

What are your future visions for HoN? Do you think it’ll be possible for this game to break into e-sports along with big names as wc3 and hopefully sc2? Will there be big changes to the games core or is the general idea to keep true to the dota spirit? I hope to see HoN as a part of major competitions in the future such as the World Cyber Games! An invite to the beta would be incredible!

HON might have potential to become almost as good as dota, maybe, but it takes years of dedication. The most important part of the game is the smoothness and aura of the game. DotA has it. Lets see if this one does. I’d gladly take a peek myself if I had a beta key :)
