Oh man, oh man!!! It doesn’t get better than this! In the time honored tradition of mcees dissing each other over beats comes the “I Love 360/Wii” street mix from Dj Chedda. Boy does this kat have it in for the PS3! It all started when this wanna be felt the need to defend the PS3 in all it’s expensive glory by explaining to who ever cares why the PS3 is worth it’s price. And of course the net exploded with all types of spoofs on his original video. But it looks like Dj Chedda is putting an end to it all for good by actually laying his diss down to a beat. This is why I love the video game community and the marvel that is You Tube! Long live the INTERNET’S!!!!!!
Let’s be honest here, guys like cars. You can be the biggest nerd or the most savvy business type in the entire world, but deep down inside, you’ll end up liking cars. Why? We don’t know. It’s one of the big mysteries in life such as women’s obsession with shoes and stereotypical American hicks watching Nascar. We don’t understand it and nor do we care; we just embrace this mystery without question or regret. Then a company at Turn 10 decided it would be a good idea to make this obsession into a Gran Turismo clone (or killer) for the original XBOX and now, the 360. It’s a great time to release it too, with summer coming just around the corner and people bringing their most expensive cars out on in the hot streets of their locale.
In what is sure to be on of the nintendo ds’s biggest action rpgs to date, square enix’s trailer for FF: crystal chronicles:Ring of Fates shows how you push the ds to it’s limit. This game looks sick and continues the look and feel of it’s prequel FF:crystal chronicles on the gamecube, but more fast paced. This is def’ one of the ds shining moments and i can’t wait to get my hands on this bad boy!
With the recent release of Forza Motorsport 2 and upcoming titles like GTR, PGR4, Burnout Paradise, Need for Speed, Nascar, and DiRT being released within a few months, it’s definitely a good time to be an owner of an XBOX 360 when your favorite genre deals with four-wheeled automobiles. Add a bit of spice with the recent price drop of the Microsoft Wireless Steering Wheel and suddenly your wallet decides it wants to go on a diet.
Let me first come out and say I’m a HUGE Stallone fan. Grew up on the Rocky flicks, and was allowed to watch Rambo movies as a young buck despite my under 17 age status (Thanks mom & dad. I was anywhere between 7-12 yrs. of age) But I must say, the end of 2006 had Sly climbing back to the top on “Rocky Balboa” the sixth and final chapter of our favorite underdog. And now, Sly has every internet “geek” shocked and applauding for the forth and perhaps final installment of Rambo simply entitled “John Rambo”. Last week Sly gave “Ain’t it Cool News” a 3:29 clip he put together on this next flick, (which he’s also directing) and all I can say is 1) Make sure you have a strong stomach. 2) Keep away from children. (Who am I to say; had my kid brother watch it and he’s 13) and 3) Not for the faint of heart. The violence sure beats out the other Rambo flicks you might remember. Why, the violence and gore makes up for the first 3 alone! Is it too much? or can the “masses” stomach the gore? Honestly, we have seen far more gorier on film since Rambo 3. Movies such as Unforgiven, Pulp Fiction, Saving Private Ryan, and Sin City, are to name a few. Has Stallone doped up on one too many viles of HGH (Human Growth Hormone) that it has impaired his thinking? (Dude got busted back in February in Australia while he was out there to promote Rocky Balboa. Probably Paul “Crocodile Dundee” Hogan tipped off Australian Officials) Anyhow you take it, people forget that Stallone isn’t just a mindless muscle bound actor. He’s really quite articulate, with an expanded vocabulary! The man has written movies, screenplays, done research on fight choreography, and directed quite a few films. And that’s not easy; especially when you’re responsible for cast and crews alike along with acting. He has film credit and doesn’t get his props. In fact; the way 2007 or ‘08 will probably have Sly looking better than his other previous “Planet Hollywood” investors (Bruce Willis & Arnold Schwarzenegger) These 2 actors never covered as much depth as Sly did. “Arnold” killed his career from a series of bad movies in the 90’s along with “T3″. Now he’s Governor of California and it would take a miracle for him to get back on track in “La La Land”. Bruce, on the other hand has been fairly successful within the late 90’s and into this decade. The question is now “What has happened to the latest Die Hard feature” and it’s rating? PG-13! Are you kidding? A concern like this and we haven’t seen the flick. Willis could’ve used Sly for his creative expertise on this one as well.
All we can do is wait and find out. John Rambo doesn’t come out until either the end of this year or until next summer.
Okay movie buffs, so looking back this month, Hollywood could probably see itself make almost a billion dollars, thanks to flicks like Spiderman 3, Shrek 3 and the third installment of Pirates of the Caribbean “At World’s End”. But was it really worth it? Spiderman 3 wasted my time and money for starters. Plot was weak, and it’s pretty much going the route the 1980’s-1990’s Batman flicks did of killing off the villains. Critics gave it anywhere from 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 stars. Why? And all those other critics who awarded it 3 stars are completely mindless! They either don’t follow comics or they’re probably been paid off to give it a good review. In the future, head over to your neighborhood comic book store and ask those people there for a “real” review. They’ll give you an honest answer. I could go on, and on with that flick, but lets just say I left the theater mad as hell! And to top it off, the game also released at the same time and gets rated worst game of the year! Shrek 3, well I actually liked it for the concept it played with the other fairy tale characters such as Cinderella, Snow White, etc. (It’s like a “Where Are They Now” setting. Kinda cool) Plus, I needed to make up for Spidey 3. But yet, for some strange reason, the critics weren’t really moved. (2 1/2 stars) Pretty much saying that this flick ran it’s course. Same was said of the last Pirates feature. I could admit it dragged a little; (maybe I’ll lay off the “pints” before viewing my next feature) but you really have to be a movie buff or historian to appreciate the “subplots” Pirates offered. Maybe they rushed it? I don’t know, but the real question is… “Is it about Quality or Quantity”
The last Star Wars game that I actually enjoyed playing, besides Lego Star Wars, was the storm troopers FPS game with squad based tactics. Enter Force Unleashed, that looks like the Star Wars game that every fanboy has had a wet dream about: just pure miss-use of a clandestine power. LUCASARTS answered many a gamers’ call when they decided to make this type of game and with a solid foundation defined by “Kicking someone’s ass using the force”. How can they go wrong? Guessing by the video demo below the only thing that boggles my mind is who will actually give your character a challenge during the game itself? Set between Episode III and Episode IV, you’ll play as the secret apprentice of Vader. There in you will have the ability to over-max four main force abilities, grip, push, repulse, and lightning. So you will not just be able to force push someone, but instead force push them through walls. This implies that LUCASARTS may have created a fully destructible environment schema that may impress us yet.
The Force Unleashed debuts Digital Molecular Matter from Pixelux and euphoria behavioral simulation from NaturalMotion Ltd. Pixeleux is a company that was created as a result of the massive requirements and expectations that are being set for next gen titles by providing services for one of the most expensive parts of video game development: asset creation. NaturalMotion is more precisely known for the creation of DMS: Dynamic Motion Synthesis in which the creation of dymanic offline physics based animation are created within a RAD [Rapid Application Development] environment. Physics is cool and all but it could mean squat in a video game if the story has no weight. LUCASARTS promises that the story will be user defined as the final outcome of the game will be based on the path you take. We can see where this is going already but how well it is implemented is another story. Force Unleashed is due for release this November. (more…)
In an e-mail statement sent to Next-Gen, Microsoft said, “It has come to our attention that an unfortunate, obscure content error which includes partial nudity was included in our initial production of “Halo 2” for Windows Vista. As such, we have updated the initial game packaging at retailers with a label, so customers are aware before purchasing the game. Additionally, we’ve developed an online update which can be downloaded from www.halo2.com to remove the content.
One of xbox360’s cult live arcade games, Geometry Wars is headed straight to the wii and ds as Geometry Wars: Galaxies. And although they’ll have the same levels as the x360’s version, these new entry’s will be fully fleshed out with the likes of a full campain mode( which’ll have you traveling to several different galaxies taking out enemies),co-op modes, new weapons, new enemies and several different gameplay modes. Also if you have the ds version you’ll be able to link it up to the wii version for some new unlockable content. Now that’s the way you do a port! You take it to the next level! Check out this interview cvg conducted with more info on this upcoming title.
Nintendo gets ready to rumble!! The official Smash Bros. Brawl website is up and running. Square-enix has finally released a teaser trailer for the upcoming wii action rpg: Final Fantasy: crystal chronicles: The crystal Bearers (damn thats a long title!) which is a sequel to the gamecube game Final Fantasy: crystal chronicles. From what can be seen from the trailer, this game is looking hot and will be a departure from the original and in a good way! Although the original was phat, it was hampered by that annoying gas protecting bubble you always had to be in.(great design choice square…jeeez). And from an interveiw s-e had in famitsu magazine, it was stated that your character is sorta like a superhero to that world and will start off already known through out and somewhat powerful. So the game won’t follow the typical “farm boy growing up learning that it’s his destiny to save the world from impending doom with a mighty sword and magic inhand”. We def’ won’t see this game states side for a while but we’ll keep you up to date on news regarding this game.
This past wednesday we were invited for some hands on time with the upcoming english version xbox360 japanese rpg Eternal Sonata. Check out our impressions and some screens of this promising game after the jump. (more…)
