5 Videogame Movies That Got Something Right!: #4 - Doom
It’s no surprise that movies based off of videogames tend to suck pretty hard. However, through all the convoluted and unfaithful adaptations, there were a few films that have managed to do something right. I don’t mean that the films were great by any means, but that they managed to accurately replicate an aspect of the game in one form or another pretty well. It could be anything from the costume design to the mannerisms of the characters, and we’ll be taking a look at a few films that have done a good job in visually translating its source material to the silver screen. Be sure to check in everyday as we count down to the number one movie to see who made the top of our list!
Today coming in at #4 is Doom, released in 2005. Now I agree with you all in saying that this movie pretty much sucked ass (Its not like the source material was that great in the first place). Talking about how bad everything else was in the movie is a whole other article (I’m looking at you Rock). But I have to say one scene stood out to me in particular. The scene in question has to deal with Doom 3’s demon dog a.k.a “Pinky”. I felt this one scene recreated all the famous hallmarks of the franchise pretty accurate. You have your trademark chainsaw being used to full effect, crazy first person camera action going on and a faithful adaption of old Pinky from the graphical benchmark setting Doom 3. Take a look at “Pinky” in his original game incarnation and then peep his silver screen debut. So do you think they nailed it down as far as translating him to the big screen?
