Why should you love MPEG 4, BluRay, and Spidey

October 15, 2007

Man its always good to check things out for yourself. I took a peek at Dead Man’s Chest ultimate treatment of MPEG 4 and 2.3 pulldown [gibber jabber] from Disney and its a freaking site to see. I believe the expression was - “is that a muppet show?” Honestly, every shot in that movie hands a high level of three dimensionality that is just unheard of. Okay, so I’m selling BluRay, bite me but I haven’t seen anything that impressive yet on HD DVD so perhaps I just don’t know any better and I dare anyone of you to show me as good or better of a transfer. Still, I’m confused why Sony had not enforced this type of transfer on its third party members - the transfer is rediculous.

What’s even more enjoyable about the piece is that there were no fuzzy, grainy, digital tricks overlayed on shots - a trick common in HD movies these days. This effect works great if you have SD TV but horror of horrors if you have a HD set; the detail is too apparent. The filters on the shots for Dead Mans Chest can only be described as RAW. Ah, I know what you’re thinking, “… maybe all the f’ups of the CG come to light.”

Actually, it looks better than the theatre. I never thought I would say it, but it does. If HD DVD and BLU RAY keep up this trend, fight amongst themselves, and produce master pieces like that, I’m down.

The images were just too huge to post here - take a look at one of the screens for yourself. Well, that’s all well and good .. but I’m happy that Sony decided to remaster the HD treatment on the Spiderman trillogy as well. Though several may agree that’s a master piece, I’m too picky about these things to agree. The release will get 1080p, two aspect ratio encodings; 2.40:1, 1.85:1, and done in MPEG4 AVC. The audio will be presented in PCM, DolbyD and Dolby TrueHD. Christmas couldn’t come sooner!

BT & Sony?

October 15, 2007

I think I may run into some conflict of interest … especially after hearing that Sony and British Telecom have partnered to bring you more than just TV to your PSP.ÂÂ Think PS3 meets iTV, to birth PlayTV.ÂÂ Don’t laugh. It’s flicking hard to come up with names for these kinds of things, my brethren can vouch for that, GameStew and all.ÂÂ Looks like the boys across the pond will have something to brag about this January 2008 in the form Go!Messenger.ÂÂ I’m sorry but I’m more impressed with that new Drake’s Fortune box art - damn that’s the best one on for PS3 yet!!!

SONIC brings the pain in Smash Bros.! New video…..

October 10, 2007

I think I found a new character to play with in Smash Bros.! I always played with the speed character(Fox), but now I may have to put Star Fox to the side and say hello to Sonic! The last time I felt so pumped for a fighting game was when Mortal Kombat 2 hit the SNES. Smash Bros. Brawl is going to be something else with all of it’s features including an original story mode, online features and characters from all over gaming we grew up with This game can’t come soon enough ARRGGGHHHH!!!!!

Mario Kart Wii includes motorcyles, Sonic in Smash Bros. and Monster Hunter 3….

October 10, 2007

Fresh out of the Nintendo Japaneses press conference comes official news that Mario Kart for the Wii will feature motorcycles! That right, motorcycles. Screens haven’t been released yet, but it will be very interesting to see how the use of motorcycles will play out in Mario kart!

The news everyone has been waiting for! After years of fan boy arguments(myself included), we can all finally settle the debate on who is the better character… Mario or Sonic!!! Sonic has been officially announced as a playabe character in Smash Bros. Brawl. And to make things even more exciting, he can transform into his alter form, Super Sonic!!! ladies and gentlemen, Smash Bros. will truly be a battle for the ages!!!!!

Heres something that came out of left field, the popular online game from capcom makes it way onto the Wii. Monster Hunter 3 will make it’s debut on the Wii next year. This title was originally announced for the PS3 and then quickly faded off the radar. With this recent news, we all can figure out what happened. For those who don’t know, this is an insanley huge title over Japan and was the firsts game to break 1 million when it was released on the PSP. To date the series has sold 4 and half million games. With the Wii’s lock on the Japanese market, I think we will start to see more titles released for the console that had skipped over the Gamecube! This game will definitely make a welcome addition to Wii’s slowly growing library of online games.

Nintendo has just had it’s Japanese press conference were they finalyy shed some light on some upcoming games as well as additions to the Wii console. Below are some good nuggets that came from the event as well as screen shots. Enjoy!

Everyone has been wondering what the deal is with Wii’s original down loadable content. And what makes this even greater news is the fact that Square -Enix has an exclusive game to help launch the channel. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land screens will make it’s a debut. Not much is known about the game at present, but as it stands, the game looks beautiful!! Peep the pics below.

Doesn’t this guy ever stop?!  Then again, Freddy tormented countless kids through seven movies.  So I don’t see why not.

Rudimusic Vid of the Week(Swithfoot’s Awakening)

October 9, 2007

This awesome hotness has the stars of Epic & Date Movie interacting with the band a la Guitar Hero and Dance Dance.  It’s really fun to watch.

Rudimusic Vid of the Week(So Called’s You Are Never Alone)

October 9, 2007

This vid is cool and creepy a la Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer vid.  The rap is performed by C-Rayz-Walz.  I guess the vid is a metaphor for how much an artist must suffer to get his art out for the world to see, hence why it looked so painful to “human projector man.”  That’s just my take on it.

Rudimusic Vid of the Week(Alicia Keys’ No One)

She’s hot, this song is hot, & the video is hot.  What else is there to say.

Video Games: Good for The Body, Good for the Brain

October 4, 2007

Treadmills and stretching are out: Physical therapists are turning to the Nintendo Wii to help the injured and infirm get their grooves back while increasing flexibility and strength.

This is hardly the first time that video games have been used for medical and health purposes. Nintendo’s Brain Age series is popularly prescribed to help elderly patients stay sharp as a sort of “exercise” for the mind. Re-Mission was designed for children with cancer, helping to inform them about treatment while keeping their spirits up during therapy. The company says the game has been shown to actually improve the prognosis for patients, saying that players actually maintain higher chemotherapy levels in the blood, suggesting the game helps them stick to their therepy schedules.

The Wii, though, is moving gaming out of niche applications and into the mainstream because the console is so accessible to such a wide variety of players. (You should see my four-year-old play Wii Carnival Games.) The upcoming Wii Fit could be a real killer in this category for those who don’t have the sense of rhythm that Dance Dance Revolution requires: Check out the video at the following link to see how it could make working out into something you look forward to, whether you’re eight or eighty.

See, mom? I told you video games were good for you!

Import fans…….REJOICE!!!!

Sin & Punishment

Well Nintendo has finally listened to it’s audience! Thats right folks, you can now purchase import titles on the Virtual Console! No longer do you need to spend a crazy amount of doe for your favorite import title from back in the day! Anyone who has been playing games since way back when can relate to how it feels when you had that one game you always wanted to play, but for whatever reason, it was never released outside of Japan. Well that all going to change now. Just head to your VC channel and go straight to the import category. And as if Nintendo wasn’t already listening to us, the first titles released are none other than Treasure’s masterpiece “Sin & Punishment” and Nintendo’s very own true sequel to Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2(which was never released to the US because it was too hard for americans at the time). Both titles are highly recommended for those who are familiar and not so familiar. Sin & Punishment is my personal favorite from back in the day. And for those worried, the graphics are sharp and clean(from the original) just like all the N64 games available now. So head on over and download these 2 phat titles. And for those wondering, hell yeah Super Mario Bros. 2 is hard as hell! But one thing is for sure, it will make some great speed run videos now that this game is available to the masses!
