What Might Have Been and What May Be – Duke Nukem and Beyond Good and Evil 2 Footage

Over the weekend news developed from both gaming’s past and future. First off is new footage of what may be actual gameplay for Ubisoft’s “Beyond Good and Evil 2.” If you don’t know anything about the original don’t feel bad, as most people never had the privilege of playing through it. The original “Beyond Good and Evil” was released in 2003 and reached critical acclaim, but suffered from poor sales, falling into the same category of games like “Ico,” “Shadow of the Colossus,” and “Psychonauts” as great games that never made it big. However, that hasn’t stopped Ubisoft from betting on the franchises potential as a sequel is currently in development.

While Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed anything about the footage, it sure looks like series protagonist Jade running through the streets, dodging bullets and enemies from all angles. Whatever this footage turns out to be, it looks incredible. Personally, I think it looks a little to good to be actual in-game footage, but I sure hope I’m wrong. Maybe we’ll find out at E3.

And now the news from gaming’s past. It’s finally official, 3D realms has now closed down, but that hasn’t stopped videos of  “Duke Nukem: Forever” from surfacing. I can’t watch it too many times, as it looks pretty incredible, and it only bums me out to think that the game may never see the light of day. But at least the video proves that there was substance there, and Duke’s latest adventure looked to be just as comical, and brutal as any previous one to date. Parents be warned, as with any Duke Nukem game, boobies are bound to follow, and there is brief nudity in the footage.
