Watch out PS3 hustlas’…ebay coming for ya’

PS3’s much like the 360 before will be floodn’ ebay once the sytem launches. It is getting out of hand now with people trying to make an extra buck. So now it looks like Sony has teamed up with eBay in order to put a squash on would be hustlers trying to cash in on PS3’s high demand. Peep the quote below from an eBay employee.

“To those who plan on selling on eBay, I work for them and there is a little rule we follow that most people don’t know about. If the owner of a trademarked item contacts eBay and asks them to remove the listing of their product and the MSRP of said product is $500 or greater, eBay will do it. Since the MSRP of the 360 and any other game system was less than $500, there was nothing the owners of the product could do about it.

This rule started out of courtesy to protect brand. Trademarked items from Prada, Coach and LV were being sold at eBay well under market value, so these companies approached eBay for help. They argued that their brand was suffering due to the cheap prices, and the rule to take down trademarked items that had a value of $500 or more at the request of the trademark holder was created. I could see Sony arguing that the outrageous prices would hurt their brand, and since the high end PS3 has an MSRP above $500, if Sony asks us to remove the listings, we will. I’m not saying this will happen (haven’t had any indications yet) but just thought I would put this out there so people have a plan B.

I tried to tell people it was possible, but no one wanted to believe me. eBay can decide what constitutes a valid or invalid auction item. If Sony were to approach them and make this request, the would most likely honor it.”

I personally think it’s about time because fools have definetly got outta hand with the whole eBay thing. I mean heads need to really think about. If everyone is doing it, the big wigs will most definelty take notice!
