I agree with your points as well.

One of the only times I've seen a 'Special Edition' prove to be successful is with Retro Studios recent release of Metroid Prime Trilogy. Here's 3 games for the price of one, new motion controls, an art book, AND in a metal case, for the price of a regularly priced 1st party game.

It's genius, it's classy, and it's presented to the buying gaming public in a way that makes them feel that although this is the ONLY way this game is being presented, it's still VERY special.

haha yeah like I say,
I am tempted by it sometimes, but we need to realize that this is a problem that will get worse.
we should be getting excited about the games!
not all these stupid add-on's that just help shift the games, and yeah MWF2 is a pretty good example at how silly it can all get with the special edition bullshit.
Not to say it can't be done right because it really can.
Just some titles are taking it so far, that people doing the right amount look like there doing nothing at all.
All because huge titles are just raising the bar to silly amounts,
its bad enough as it is with everyone changing there release dates, to coincide with MWF2's release.

I am with you man. All of these special editions are just for the hype machine. Every game is not a huge game worth it. And the costs? Gorsh. While I must say that the only one I can really respect was the Halo Helmet. I mean if you are really a fan having that on the mantle is really cool.

But having Night Vision goggles? jeez, then when some brats use it to shoot up a school at night you know who's gonna get blamed.
