Resident Evil: Afterlife Reportedly in Production

Resident Evil

Remember those three forgettable Resident Evil films starring Milla Jovovich? Yea, we’ll, it’s okay if you don’t, but that won’t stop Hollywood from jamming 90 more trash-filled minutes down you throat. That’s right, ShockTillYouDrop is reporting that a fourth movie, entitled Resident Evil: Afterlife, is heading to theaters on Sept. 17, 2010. While this confirms that the movie is in production, Paul W.S. Anderson (director of the first three films, and Jovovich’s husband) mentioned last year that he was writing the script for the newest addition to the franchise with Capcom’s involvement. Resident Evil 5 Review: Scary and Good, but Not Scary Good

The Resident Evil franchise has always been a cash cow for Capcom, and for a good reason – good games, especially ones about zombies, usually sell a lot of copies. The survival horror genre may have already existed in 1998, but the original “Resident Evil,” arguably, brought the genre into the limelight. While the “RE” franchise may be known mostly for its scare factor, and thrilling cutscenes, it’s also known for its longevity. In 2005, Capcom took a series in dire need of a transformation, and gave it a makeover that resulted in critical acclaim, the world over, with the release of “Resident Evil 4.” Thus, the bar has been set extremely high for “Resident Evil 5,” and while it’s a worthy addition to the storied franchise, it will ultimately fail to achieve what its predecessor did 4 years ago.

“Resident Evil 5” stars series veteran, Chris Redfield, and his partner/newcomer Sheva Alomar. Without giving away any of the game’s secrets, some other characters from the series’ past will make appearances as well. Hopefully, by the time you play “RE5” you’ll still in the dark about most of major plot points, event hough Capcom could’ve done a better job keeping certain things under wraps. If you are lucky enough to have avoided either leaks or hints about the game, the story will not disappoint you. A new company has overtaken the role of the Umbrella Corporation, and is manufacturing a new wave of horrific bio-organic weapons (B.O.W.’s). “RE5” also includes its fair share of mysterious, yet memorable characters, many of which are up to no good. The game does emerge a little on the short side, but its length never becomes a noticeable problem, as one can complete its six levels in roughly 10 hours, and still have a satisfying experience, since the action seldom lets up. The Dawn of Resident Evil 5

Alright, I know I’ve been going a little “Resident Evil 5″ crazy lately, but I can’t help it; it’s one of my favorite franchises, ever. As you, hopefully, now know, “Resident Evil 5″ releases tonight at midnight, and I have plans to get pretty far into the game before I give into the Sandman.

However, I’m not as excited about this game as I have been in the past, and there’s one big reason for this. Capcom’s released so much footage of the game, that anyone following closely enough, can decipher its plot. I implore you all, if you’ve been lucky enough to not watch the trailers thus far, DON’T START NOW! Now, obviously I can’t say that I am 100 percent sure of the game’s storyline, but I have a pretty solid guess, and I feel like I’m 98% sure. I won’t spoil anything for you guys, so don’t feel hesitant to read on, but I will say that someone from the franchises past returns. What I’m fumed about is that Capcom, and game journalists across the net, have already started to mention that this person will play a role in the game. Whether that person was appearing to us as a memory or an actual, living being was not, and has not been confirmed. However, when you watch the trailer, and there’s someone running around in a mask, and they’re seemingly fighting on the side you wouldn’t normally expect. This pisses me off, because had Capcom taken out those images of that person in the trailer, I would have been pleasantly surprised, as I played through it tonight. Instead you have a franchise fan who’s 98% sure the game won’t deliver on the surprise and emotion it might have evoked otherwise. [Continue Reading]

Zombies Selling You Games Where You Kill… Zombies? What a Paradox.

Rather lighthearted news today, gamers. “Resident Evil 5″’s release is fast approaching, and critics are saying many positive things about Capcom’s number one zombie franchise. With the game set to hit store shelves next Tuesday, pre-order deals and incentives are popping up all over the place.

However, one Best Buy in Stroudsburg, PA is going all out to have people flock to their store, come next Tuesday.  Residents have been putting together a viral-video campaign on how zombies will arrive in their quaint, little town.  Two videos have been released in a planned five part series, showing a doctor injecting himself with the virus before he sets off for Stroudsburg. It’s looking like zombies will eventually litter the streets on the night of the games release.

There will, apparently, be a haunted house as well, and kids under 17 will, of course, need a parent to buy the game. The events happen on March 13th at midnight, so if you live in the area, go check it out! I wish I could. But I live in cold, frozen tundra, Wisconsin, and I’ve driven 19 hours to Philly before, and I promised myself I’d never do it again. Anyways gamers, that’s it for today. Have a good one. And if your one of the millions of TGH readers out there, and you go to this event, tell us how it was!

Resident Evil 5 Demo – First Impressions

So, a fairly short post today, guys. Earlier this afternoon I got the chance to play the “Resident Evil 5″ demo on the 360, and I wanted to talk about my brief time with the game. For those of you, who’ve already played the demo, feel free to share your thoughts on whether or not you dug this short, zombie-stomping romp.

For the PS3 owners out there, you can read on to see what’s in store for you next week. [Continue Reading]
