In the last week or so I finally added a Neo Geo to my gaming collection, and one of the main reasons I did so was because of “Metal Slug.” While I may never be able to afford any of the “M.S.” titles that came out on the under-appreciated and overpriced system, on February 23rd I will be able to drop $20 on the new “Metal Slug XX” for the PSP. Sure, it’s basically the same game that came out almost 20 years ago, but that’s the reason it’s amazing. Run, shoot, make something blow up, and save the hostages. Yeah that’s all I need… well that and lots of bullets. … [visit site to read more]

2009 wasn’t just the year of big name releases; there was also a very obvious attempt to revive some of gaming’s longest running franchises. While that’s not necessarily a new idea, it seemed like in this past year developers actually attempted to keep the feeling of the original games instead of just taking the name of a franchise and slapping it on something completely new. Take a look at some of the classics that received some nostalgic love this year, and reminisce about the good old days as you cross your fingers that 2010 holds the same retro goodness. … [visit site to read more]

Ant farms are boring. When I was a kid, my friend begged his parents to get him one for months. Eventually, they caved, and I raced over to his house to experience the feeling of playing God to a bunch of insects trapped in maze. 15 minutes later, we decided we could have more fun by watching the latest episode of Walker: Texas Ranger. At first glance, “Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This?” is a lot like an anthill. You’ll dig tunnels beneath ground, micromanaging units, in hopes of creating the perfect ecosystem, but unlike an anthill, “Badman” has tons to offer, and anyone willing to try this experimental take on the creation/sim genre may never look at ant farms the same way again. … [visit site to read more]

If there has ever been a game made for the ADD generation it’s XSEED’s upcoming RPG for the PSP, “Half-Minute Hero.” To my knowledge, it’s the first game that comes to mind where you have to save less than a minute to save the world. That’s right, much like the “Warioware” series, “HMH” cuts out all the fluff, but, unlike “WarioWare,” “HMH” keeps the substance. There’s definitely a lot more than thirty seconds worth of gameplay, as there are actually four different, intermingling story lines (each with their own unique, time-based gameplay mechanic), and, a Goddess of Time, who allows you to buy time from her, therein extending the gameplay. It’s one of the most creative ideas I’ve ever seen crammed into a portable game, especially one that openly embraces a 16-bit (one of the best bits) artstyle. This is a game that PSP owners shouldn’t overlook when it comes out later this year. TrueGameHeadz’ own Unit had a chance to sit down with XSEED Games’ Jimmy Soga to find out more about just what a “Half-Minute Hero” is (aside from a potentially bad porn title). Check out the interview: … [visit site to read more]

Check out some of the interesting additions to their lineup that they were showing off at their booth at this year’s E3, including the Pistol Grip and Type Pad Pro for the Wii, the Charge Grip Flex for the PSP, and the Zoom Case for the DSi. Sure, those might not be the best names, but that doesn’t mean the products aren’t pretty interesting. … [visit site to read more]

The “Rock Band” franchise has cemented itself as one of the best multiplayer party games ever released for a console. The proposition of being able to create a “band” with three other peopled, and be “famous” in under thirty minutes is unquestionably appealing, no matter how you feel about the music included in the game. So, what happens if you take the three friends out of that equation, and substitute the console for a portable system … can “Rock Band” still retain its entertainment value? Surprisingly… it can, and the release of “Rock Band Unplugged” proves that Harmonix can recreate an addictive “Rock Band” experience on the PSP just as well as they can on an Xbox 360, Wii, or a PS3. … [visit site to read more]

Sony sucks at keeping secrets, and their lack of secrecy on their newest handheld proves just that. Yes, we all pretty much new it was coming, but days before its official unveiling at E3, a leaked episode of Qore spills the beans on Sony’s new handheld; the PSP Go!.

Various leaks across the world wide web reveal Sony’s new handheld and its various functions via the June issue of Sony’s video magazine, Qore. Most of the rumors that led up to the PSP Go’s debut have seem to proven true. The system’s screen will cover the face buttons and slide up when access to those buttons is needed. The PSP Go! will be even smaller then its previous PSP-3000 brother, and will do away with the UMD drive, meaning all forms of media will be downloaded for the system. The PSP Go! will come equipped with 16 gigs of internal flash memory as well as multiple slots for memory stick slots, so people will not have to worry about running out of space for all those incoming downloads.

While it still looks like Sony is waiting until E3 to officially unveil their new PSP, anonymous sources from around the game industry are spilling the beans on what gamers can look for in the next iteration of Sony’s handheld.

1up’s sources tell them that the new PSP will indeed git rid of the UMD drive, and that a huge amount of titles will be available at launch. Two of these titles will be the freshly announced Namco Bandai games “Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny” and “Tekken 6.” (The PSP version of “Soul Calibur” will reportedly have a new character named Dampierre.) The new PSP may also be available in two units, one with carrying 8 gigs of storage and another with 16. … [visit site to read more]
