Proof! Se7en can be an Interactive Movie like Heavy Rain

Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain isn’t even a month old and it’s inspiring loads of chatter from the internet. Usually with chatter comes creativity. This youtube contributor (LBQ2TS) is taking Machinima to the next level. Going back to David Fincher’s brilliant Se7en (1995) staring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey and seeing how it would play out with Heavy Rain like controls. Does this open the door to bringing back full fledged interactive movies a la Sega CD’s “Night Trap”? But now that we have stronger systems, they can be more sophisticated like Heavy Rain. Watch this and see if it doesn’t start the mind spinning.

Top 10 Most Overlooked Games of 2009: The Hidden Gems

Little King’s Story

It happens every year. Hundreds of games are released, and only a handful go on to be blockbusters. There are numerous reasons that contribute to games being overlooked; everything from little to no marketing budgets, to coming out on the same day as a much bigger title. However, as we all should know, the size of a game’s marketing budget doesn’t directly correspond to the quality of the game, which means that every year there are good games out there that go unplayed. Here are some of this year’s best: [Continue Reading]

God of War Collection Review: Revisiting Old Times

God of War Collection

While there are a small handful of PlayStation 2 games still being released every few weeks, the console’s lifecycle is finally coming to a dwindling end. After nine years, and thousands of games, in the end there was only one franchise that stood out as Sony’s best first party offering for the platform, “God of War.” Coming along only within the last few years of the PS2’s life, Kratos’ epic first two games pushed the limits of what could be done in a video game, while presenting some of the most satisfying gameplay ever, making his two titles absolute must-haves for anyone that considered themselves a gamer. It has only been two and a half years since “God of War 2” was released, and we are only months away from “God of War 3” but Sony has gone and released yet another “G.o.W.” product that’s now a must-have for every PS3 owner in the “God of War Collection.” [Continue Reading]

Less Than Five Days Until Modern Warfare 2: Why Failure Is Impossible

“Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” came out almost exactly two years ago, and took the shooter market by storm. It has since become the absolute standard port of call for the FPS genre, with its tight, intuitive console control scheme and deep, multi-layered online achievement system. In a matter of days, Infinity Ward intends to unleash their new monster, “Modern Warfare 2,” and I’d like to take a moment to outline why it simply won’t go wrong for them. [Continue Reading]

Kratos Gets A Hi-Def Makeover

God of War Collection

Are you having trouble finding things to do while waiting for Kratos’ next outing on the PS3? Well fear not Sony gamers, as it looks like Kratos will be making his way to the console much sooner then anticipated… just in the form of games you’ve already played. [Continue Reading]

E3 ‘09: E3’s Top 10 Underdogs

E3 09
E3 2009's Underdogs

E3 2009 may be long gone at this point, but there are obviously still games that people are talking about. This isn’t a list of those games. E3 isn’t all about big announcements for even bigger games – it’s about the industry as a whole, both “big” and “little” games alike. Unfortunately, every year, a handful of really great games, with a lot of potential get swallowed up in the media storm that surrounds the “Halo”’s, the “Mario”’s, and the “anything-with-Snake-in-it”’s. This list is here to make sure you don’t forget the little games; you know the ones that might not make too many Top 10 lists, (I hear there’s only a certain number of spots on those) and hopefully don’t get picked over when their release date comes along. These are the Top 10 Underdogs of E3 2009 (or the best of what you didn’t see). [Continue Reading]

E3 ‘09: Sony Preps For Their Biggest Year Yet

E3 09

Sony

Yikes, I have a lot to get to, here. Yesterday, Sony followed up Nintendo’s mediocre conference with their own press conference filled with huge announcements. While I still think Micorsoft stole the show with their Project Natal, Sony came in at a very close second, and it looks like the PS3 (and PSP) have their biggest year ahead of them yet. [Continue Reading]

Six Minutes of Fame With inFamous

Since its announcement at E3 in 2007, “Infamous” has been quietly building a lot of steam. With a proven developer at the helm (”Sly Cooper” creator, Sucker Punch) and it’s unique take on the sandbox genre, “Infamous” is looking more and more like an exclusive to be proud of. However, protagonist Cole MacGrath  still has a lot of convincing to do to assure his adventure is a success on the PS3 and Sucker Punch has released six minutes from the “Infamous” demo to reassure gamers that this is going to be one “shocking” ride. I know a bit lame with the whole shocking thing, but I couldn’t resist. Anyways take a  gander at the new footage below. [Continue Reading]

Burn Zombie Burn Review: If You Play With Fire…

Burn Zombie Burn
“Burn Zombie Burn” is the perfect example of why downloadable games on consoles, at a affordable prices is, possibly, this generation’s biggest breakthrough. It’s a fun little game, by an independent developer, that, if it were to be released to retail, would have simply gotten lost going up against triple-A titles, with huge budgets and giant marketing teams behind them. However, by going download only, a solid little game about killing zombies has the ability to shine, and can end up sucking up hours of your life faster than a zombie can suck out your brain.

“Burn Zombie Burn” is not “Left 4 Dead,” but it does fill a big gap in the console market for an arcade-style game about setting zombies on fire, and then killing them with a lawnmower. Sure, it may borrow that last idea from “Dead Rising,” but the top-down, quick, twitchy gameplay of “Burn Zombie Burn” sets it apart for most other zombie games on the market. [Continue Reading]

Sony’s Big Announcement is $100 PS2? Sony to Hold Press Confernece To Announce It’s Wednesday

Grrrrr, everybody. I’m a bit frustrated today, as word of Sony’s rumored big announcement has finally been revealed, and all it is is a $30 dollar PlayStation 2 price drop… bummer. I, like many other gamers who heard there would be a “big” announcement, was under the impression that a much needed PS3 price drop was on its way. Instead, Sony took a 9-year-old console, that’s past its prime, and tried to give it one last shock of life.

On Sunday,  multiple high-profile gaming websites were reporting that Sony were going to have a big announcement for us all on Tuesday, and many believed that it would have something to do with the PS3. Today, Sony shot those hopes down by dropping the price of the PS2 from $129.99 to $99.99. [Continue Reading]
