Katamari Forever Review: Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’

Katamari Forever

At this point, the “Katamari” formula is tried and true. However, not every console has had the honor of having The Prince and his royal ball rolling grace it with their presence. The PS3 stuck out like a sore thumb after having lost the game’s last console release, “Beautiful Katamari,” to the Xbox 360, and getting “Noby Noby Boy” instead. Well, Sony scored the Prince again with the release of “Katamari Forever,” and even though it looks like the Prince is rolling up a familiar tree for this release, he’s got a few new tricks up his sleeve for anyone who’s down to roll a katamari, whether they’re longtime fans, or completely new to the series. E3 ‘09: Tekken 6 Developer Interview

E3 09
Tekken 6It seems like the fighting game genre is going through a renaissance of sorts. Just about every classic fighting franchise has appeared on the current generation of consoles – “Street Fighter,” “Soul Calibur,” “Virtua Fighter,” and, by the end of the summer, Namco Bandai’s “Tekken” will join that list. Returning with 40 characters, online, and a co-op campaign mode, “Tekken 6″ is sure to make fans of the series extremely happy. Unit had a chance to stop by the Namco Bandai booth at E3 and see just how beautiful the new “Tekken” looked. While he was there he also go the scoop on just what to expect when the game hits store shelves. [Continue Reading]

E3 ‘09: Dead to Rights: Retribution Developer Interview

E3 09
Dead to Rights: Retribution“Dead to Rights” is back with “Retribution” a new entry in the franchise, and the first for this console generation. While it is more of a “re-imagining of the original ‘Dead to Rights’ franchise” than it is a sequel it’s still all about Jack Slate and his dog – but this time you actually get to play parts of the game as his Cujo-esque puppy. Man, if Shadow was my dog he really would be my best friend… all cute and cuddly with his poofy tail – but I digress. Unit stopped by the Namco Bandai booth at this year’s E3 to get the lowdown on “Dead to Rights: Retribution,” check out what he found out. [Continue Reading]

Klonoa Review: Is He A Cat Or A Rabbit?

Klonoa

Video game remakes have been occurring more and more this console generation than ever before. With the advent of Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, it’s become extremely easy, and less risky for publishers to reach into their back catalogs and push out a rehashed “classic” from the mid 1980s. Some are better than others, but all of them prey on the sense of nostalgia that is virtually omnipresent in gamers over the age of 22. And that works because a lot of the games that have been re-released, your “Pac-Man”s and your “Galaga”s, are games that people are lifelong fans of, but does that same theory work when the game in question isn’t as well known as “Dig Dug”? Well, Namco Bandai (coincidentally the publisher of all of the aforementioned games) has set out to answer that question with the re-release of the lesser known PS1 game, “Klonoa.” [Continue Reading]

New Tekken 6 “Power is Everything” Trailer

Tekken 6

“Tekken 6″ can’t come soon enough. One of the greatest fighting franchises of all time is fast approaching with its sixth iteration, and the game is looking pretty sweet. Jin, Jun, Kuma, and – my personal favorite – Bryan, are all coming back with a vengeance, and it looks like all hell is going to break loose.

In the new trailer (after the jump) it appears as though Jin has all but succumbed to the devil gene, and looks completely badass after the transformation. While a full roster has not been released, there are a few new confirmed characters entering this year’s King of the Iron Fist tournament. You can get a look at new comers Leo, Bob Zafina and Miguel can all be seen in the trailer. Bob seems to be a Namco’s answer to Rufus from “Street Fighter 4.” [Continue Reading]

Afro Samurai Review: Stick to TV, Kid

This is my first review for TGH, so I was rather excited about the whole experience. Then I was told I would be reviewing “Afro Samurai,” and not much changed. I had always wanted to see the show, but never made time to do so. Now, after beating the game and watching a good portion of the series, I know two things to be true. First, all Afro Samurai episodes will soon find their way to my library. And second, the game will quickly find its way out.

The game follows the show’s plot closely, with Afro on his quest to avenge his father, and obtain the number one headband, a headband that is rumored to give its user god-like powers. The show is overflowing with interesting and mysterious characters, and the game tries to accommodate fans of the series by hosting most of those individuals. However, Namco Bandai seemed quick to forget about adding in any sort of story. Having not seen the series before playing the game, I was completely confused by what was going on, but I knew damn well that I wanted to find out. Audibly and visually “Afro Samurai” has all the elements it needs to deliver an enjoyable story, but it simply seems to pass on the chance. [Continue Reading]

Those fine folks of the Project Aces team over at Namco looks to be bringing their Ace Combat goodness intact to the Wii. Based of the popular novels and recently released anime of the same name, Skycrawlers puts you in the cockpit of highly maneuverable fighter planes set in an alternate universe. You can read up on our previous story on the game, but in the meantime you can check out these two recently released trailers!

TrueGameHeadz: Afro Samurai the game video preview

Here’s a little something something for all you folks out there who can’t get enough of the Afro sportn’ samurai himself. I had the pleasure of attending Namco Bandai’s 2008 press tour here in NY. I was able to get some hands on time with the game and I have to say things are looking up for this title as the controls feel on point and the look and feel of the series has been translated well. And the music doesn’t disappoint either! Take a look at the video preview as I think you fans of the show will be very pleased with what ya see! AYO AFROOOOOOO!

And if you haven’t seen already, the video below is a good indication of how much the TGH crew are fans of the series. Enjoy!
