R.U.S.E. Multiplayer Preview: Not Your Grandpa’s WWII Game

R.U.S.E.

The Real Time Strategy genre has always been a staple of PC Gaming. French-based developer Eugen and publisher Ubisoft plan on changing that by making their RTS game, “R.U.S.E,” accessible enough for the console market. This doesn’t mean they are “dumbing down” the game by any means, as they also plan on making some rather innovative and risky changes to the traditional RTS format, in hopes to create something new for a future generation of strategy games. Aliens vs Predator Multiplayer Preview: Aliens FTW

Aliens vs Predator

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m hooked on “Modern Warfare 2”’s multiplayer. I feel like in the current gamer culture, there’s a bit of a stigma that comes with playing “MW2” online, but, for better or worse, I enjoy it. Since “Call of Duty 2” the “CoD” franchise has been a bit of an anomaly for me, mostly because they’re really the only multiplayer games that I regularly play online. Other than that, I’m usually a solo gamer. However, I recently had the opportunity to take a look at another game that I will soon be adding to my online roster, Sega’s “Aliens vs. Predator.” And it’s not because I’m a fan of the movies – because I’m not. Play Theater: Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta Gameplay

Battlefield Bad Company 2

The original “Battlefield: Bad Company” was an interesting experiment on EA’s behalf, but apparently it went well enough to warrant a sequel. And apparently this sequel is looking to up its multiplayer presence, offering up a preview/test via an online beta. We’ve given it a go, and here’s a look at what you may come to expect from the final version once it hits stores on March 2, 2010. [Continue Reading]

Madballs In BABO Invasion Review: Keeping Your Balls In Check

Madballs in BABO Invasion

HEY! Madballs. It’s been a long time. How have you been? It’s amazing you haven’t changed a bit since I saw you last. What have you been up to for the last, say, 15 years or so? What? You’ve got a new video game? Nooo…. that doesn’t even make sense. So many questions – the first one being why? That’s crazy. I honestly can’t believe you have your own video game. And, what’s this? It’s actually kind of good. That’s it, my mind is officially blown. I don’t even know how to process this. [Continue Reading]

Thoughts From The Conduit’s Eric Nofsinger – Plus Multiplayer Action

The ConduitSega recently blew through NYC to show off “The Conduit” one last time before the game hits stores on June 23rd. This time around we got a chance to take a look at the game’s mulitplayer, and see what kind of experience “The Conduit” is going to be when you take it online. Microsoft Betting the Farm on Halo… Again

Microsoft is looking to expand the “Halo” universe, yet again. An online job posting suggests that the company is aiming to create a “Halo” community that not only spans consoles, but possibly reaches out to the web and mobile worlds as well. The listing, which calls for a software development engineer says several interesting things about creating a new “Halo” community. [Continue Reading]

F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin Review: Alma’s Back

Prince

I’ve been waiting for a sequel to the original “F.E.A.R.” since I finished that game. The first title was a such a rush, and at the time there was nothing like it with memorable gun fights and online battles that tended to get very intense when the rooms were maxed out. In the official second installment “F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin,” starts out some thirty minutes before the events of the original “F.EA.R,” and the single player campaign delivers on every front. For anyone that might pick up this game for the console, you’ll be in a new nightmare during your online multiplayer adventures.

First, let’s get the bad news out of the way. Several other gamers I’ve spoken on the PlayStation Network all concluded that the online needs some work as there’s something that’s just not intuitive about it. After playing multiplayer most of last week and the weekend I realized what that was; it’s the design of the lobbies, matching, and party selecting – they were all was designed with the PC in mind. I’d bet my bottom dollar on that, because I played “F.E.A.R.” online extensively for two years, and still occasionally play it even now on my PC. I can’t say the same for the MP on PS3 though: users seem to be quite frustrated with the way you match up, as they spend countless hours trying to get into a game. [Continue Reading]

Left 4 Dead Review: Check your Fire!

Poster
Valve has done it again. “Left 4 Dead” for the XBOX360 and PC brings multiplayer gamers together in, what can only be deemed the best zombie-film-to-game adaptations ever. But wait… it’s not a film, but the chapters are films? … I’m confused!

“Left 4 Dead” wisely chose to go with the “Unbelievably Fast Swarming Infected” zombies of movies like 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later, instead of the plodding, slow-footed zombies of the Night of the Living Dead fame. I believe this is hinted at in the game, as the enemies are referred to as “infected,” rather than zombies. That’s where Valve added the challenge into the game, since it would have been much too easy to beat if you had four human controlled characters up against a mob of the slow moving undead, ala “Dead Rising.” [Continue Reading]
