N3 II: Ninety-Nine Nights Trailer Wants To Destroy Everything

Whether you loved or hated the original “Ninety-Nine Nights” it looks like the Xbox 360 is about to get another dose of the horde-based hack-n-slash title courtesy of Konami. While the appeal of the original may have been a bit general gamer audience, partially because it came out really early in the Xbox 360’s lifecycle, and partially because it wasn’t really that much fun. However, it looks like developers Feel Plus and Q Entertainment are hoping to inject some fun into “N3 II: Ninety-Nine Nights” when it comes out later this year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Metal Gear Solid Fan Movie…WOW!

See folks, this is why I love fans. Whether they’re of movies, videogames, anime, comics etc. There’s always a group of them that’ll take the genre they love and create something thats totally mind blowing. 5 Videogame Movies That Got Something Right!: #1 – Silent Hill

01It’s no surprise that movies based off of video games tend to suck pretty hard. However, through all the convoluted and unfaithful adaptations, there were a few films that have managed to do something right. I don’t mean that the films were great by any means, but that they managed to accurately replicate an aspect of the game in one form or another pretty well. It could be anything from the costume design to the mannerisms of the characters, and we’ll be taking a look at a few films that have done a good job in visually translating its source material to the silver screen. Be sure to check in everyday as we count down to the number one movie to see who made the top of our list!

Rounding out our list at number one is my personal favorite video game movie Silent Hill. Now I will admit I am a huge fan of the series, and so my view might be a bit biased. With that out of the way, I’ve chosen Silent Hill as the king of the hill (no pun intended), because I felt the filmmakers did such a great job in bringing the creatures and atmosphere of SIlent Hill to life. From the scene in the video below, you’ll see one of the first encounters with the creatures of Silent Hill; one that was inspired from the same scenario in “Silent Hill 2.” When I saw it for the first time in theaters, I couldn’t help but get goose-bumps from how well they mimicked the game. The rest of the movie would follow suit, and recreate famous scenes made memorable from the franchise. Silent Hill did decent enough at the box office to spawn a forthcoming sequel (which I am very happy about). It may not have been a great film, but by video game movie standards I think it’s one of the best along side Mortal Kombat! [Continue Reading]

Is the New PSP Metal Gear Actually Metal Gear 5?

Metal Gear Peace WalkerWhile most gamers got their first looks at the next installments in the “Metal Gear” saga at E3, many questions remained. Thankfully, in an interview released by Konami, Hideo Kojima has finally shed some light on the “PSP’s “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker,” and even refers to the heandheld’s entry as a “MGS5-class game.”

Big Boss’ latest foray into the world of tactical espionage action will primarily feature more replayability and offer more customization options then traditionally available in previous Metal Gear’s. “For example there’s heavy gear configurations that make a lot of noise, but that allow you to equip numerous weapons,” Kojima said. “Or, there are other configurations that won’t allow you to carry many weapons, but will allow you to be light on your feet. We will be preparing a variety of other types as well. Being able to make decisions and plot a strategy will be one of the really enjoyable features of this title.” [Continue Reading]

E3 ‘09: Saw The Video Game Developer Interview

E3 09
Saw: The Video GameThe Saw movies are easily some of the most disturbing pieces of American cinema in the last few years, and they are about to become a video game. “Saw: The Video Game” picks up between the first and second movies, throwing the player in an insane asylum at the mercy of Jigsaw. It will undoubtedly be one of the most psychologically challenging games of the year, and Sir-G got a first look at it at this year’s E3. Check out what he discovered about Jigsaw’s first game. E3 ‘09: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Revealed (Updated)

If you’re not excited about this title being worked in conjunction with Kojima Productions, then I don’t know what will excite you.  Given Kojima Productions approach to long cut scenes, it may the only thing that you should worry about.  The game already has a stellar voice cast, including the likes of Patrick Stewart, and Robert Carlyle. For those of you who don’t know Carlyle, he has worked on movies like James Bond: The World is Not Enough, and 24-Redemption movie.  Carlyle is doing the voice over for Gabriel.

E3 ‘09: Quick & Dirty Video – Saw Gameplay

E3 09

Who would have thought Saw would make for a decent looking game. Then again, the whole premise is like a sick and twisted game. Watch it now!

So, What’s Kojima Productions Up to These Days?

Hey kids, have you been sitting around lately saying to yourself, “Man, I wonder what Kojima is up to these days.” If that sounds like you then you’re in luck…kinda.

Earlier this week, an ad appeared in Famitsu magazine possibly showcasing what may be Kojima and crew’s next project. The ad is pretty open to interpretation, but does have the date 2009. 5. 18 written on it with a web address underneath. The site is very similar to the add, with overcast clouds covering a field of dried up grass and trees.  While it’s anybody’s guess as to what any of this really means, a couple of ideas immediately come to mind. Some have said that you can see Solid Snake’s face amongst the group of clouds in the add. If this is true it may mean the next entry into the Metal Gear series, or the often rumored Xbox 360 version.

While it isn’t a stretch to presume that Kojima will once again venture into the franchise that has made him a household name among gamers everywhere, I’m hoping that’s all a rouse, and that the game will be a new IP from Kojima productions. The Metal Gear franchise is one of gaming’s best, but we live in an era where closure within a series is looked down upon, and I see it as an unfortunate trend.  Sequelitis is a serious threat to innovation and originality, and while Kojima will likely turn gold into whatever he touches, wouldn’t you gamers like to see him do something other then Metal Gear? I know I would, but that’s just me

There Will Be Blood… and Video Games Based on Saw

The Saw movies have always interested me. The first two were more entertaining than I wanted to admit, and they were the ones responsible for drawing me into the franchise. The third movie was watchable, but it was easy to see the franchise was running out of steam. The fourth movie was so terrible that I refuse to comment on it anymore, and the fifth film, surprisingly, drew me back into Jigsaw’s world. What I’m getting at here is that you never seem to really know what your going to get with a Saw film.

Just because movie based franchises turned into games tend to be rather unreliable, and occasionally unplayable, that’s never stopped Konami from publishing them. In fact, Konami seems so confident about the Saw franchise that they’ve picked up the publishing rights from failed publisher Brash Entertainment, and likening it to another blockbuster franchise of their own – “Silent Hill.” [Continue Reading]
