Batman: Arkham Asylum Demo Impressions

Batman Arkham Asylum

The history of the caped crusader in games is not one to brag about. With a few exceptions, most of Batsy’s forgettable forays into the gaming realm have been met with underwhelming reception, but all that may be about to change. Finally, after waiting for what has seemed like an eternity, the release of a downloadable demo for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 owners now, finally, have the chance to sample “Batman: Arkham Asylum,” and this ain’t you’re daddies Batman. The BIGS 2: Demo Impressions

The BIGS 2

“The BIGS 2″ came out this past Tuesday, and the demo has been available to most gamers for about two weeks now. Sports games are not regularly my forte, but something strange happened to me after I downloaded the demo onto my PS3; I fell in love with “The BIGS 2.” I have never had so much fun and gotten more mileage out of one 562 MB file as I have with this arcadey baseball romp. Well, except for that one time I downloaded that “Boob Slapper” game to my pc… but that’s another story. [Continue Reading]

E3 ‘09: Modern Warfare 2 Eyes-On Impressions – War Is Beautiful

Modern Warfare 2

In advance of going to this year’s E3, there were only a handful of games at that I was really, really looking forward to seeing, and Activision’s “Modern Warfare 2” was at the very top of that list. The original was one of the best first person shooter games ever released, and the follow up could only get better. As a general rule, I do my best to not have expectations of games before I see them, mostly because I usually get let down, but I slipped on this one, and I had really high hopes for “MW2” … and it lived up to every single one of them. E3 ‘09: New Super Mario Bros. Wii Impressions

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

One of the big surprises that Nintendo had to offer at this year’s E3 was the newest title in the “New Super Mario Bros.” franchise – “New Super Mario Bros. Wii.” It’s a follow up to the massively selling Nintendo DS game, and puts Mario back in the lead role of his first console based 2D side-scrolling platformer since the Super Nintendo classic “Super Mario World.” However, there was one catch that came along with the announcement of the new title – it’s Mario’s first co-op game, and it was the intentions of series creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, to be played by up to four players at once. It’s new ground for both Nintendo and Mario to be venturing into, and it could really take a turn for the worse, if it wasn’t executed properly. Fortunately, after spending some time with the game on the E3 show floor it looks like Nintendo is going to have yet another winner starring Mario on its hands. [Continue Reading]

E3 ‘09: Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time Impressions

Ratchet & Clank a crack time had me thinking that the series may finally reaching its apex.  You expect to see the out of this world weapons.  You expect to see zany dingbats that either fulfill their comic relief or comic death.  You expect strong platforming with a little puzzle here and there ontop of great graphics.  Anyone of these missing from the series may spell disaster.  Nevertheless, all of these things were noticeable in the demo long before I picked up the controller to play it.

E3 ‘09: Darksiders Impressions

Darksiders has officially garnered critical acclaim here at E3.  It was marked as one of the best games at E3 but I’m hoping that judgment was not based on the booth babes that stalked this region daily; they came out in full force.

E3 ‘09: Lost Planet 2 Impressions

Lost Planet 2 is setting itself up to do everything right that the first game couldn’t; create a solid online gameplay.  In the first game many considered the Multiplayer Mode to be lackluster yet full with potential.  Perhaps Capcom took this heart and decided to make on Online Mission Based Co-Op games to set things right with their followers.

E3 ‘09: Prototype Impressions

This game is relentless.  That’s exactly how most hack n’ slash games should be.  Throughout the demo you are constantly challenged by the enemies in the game.  The demo was designed to showcase much of the different abilities you obtain throughout the game as you go about your business trashing Time Square, New York and everything in your path.

E3 ‘09: Bayonetta Impressions

We got a chance to sit with Yasuke Hashimoto from PLATINUMGAMES, Inc.  one of the producers on the action title, Bayonetta.  Simply put, we walked away impressed.  The demo we were shown was diffrent from the E3 floor demo but nevertheless what we were shown was just as good and provided some hints into the plot as well.  As a matter of fact, it looked like the version we were shown was much more polished than E3 floor demo.

E3 ‘09: God of War III Impressions

The first thing you notice about God of War III for the PS3 when you play the demo is the immediate difference in the camera work. Everything that you’ve come to love about the series is either intact or enhanced.  Some of the attendees at E3 have been summing up the difference to a graphical overlay but overall everyone is satisfied.  The point is that if do buy the game for graphical reasons, in the least, you won’t be disappointed. The controls, sound and whatever makes God of War what it is remains intact and satisfying to anyone.
