New inFamous Home Area and Firmware 3.0 Details

InFamous

Ready for exciting new PS3 fans? “InFamous” is coming to PlayStation Home! Still not excited, huh? We’ll I can’t blame you. Sony’s online community service has been less than revolutionary, and I couldn’t tell you the last time I spent some time within the walls of my virtual apartment, but Sony claims it’s doing great and continues to support it with some of its biggest exclusives. Steet Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5: Homeward Bound

Today, Joystiq announced (via Famitsu) that Capcom will offer exclusive content on Sony’s Home for both “Resident Evil 5″ and “Street Fighter 4.”

“Resident Evil 5″ will host its’ own personal game space on the community-based service. If you’ve been paying attention diligently to the site as of late (as I know you’ve all been), then you, no doubt, remember an article I wrote suggesting some ways that Sony can set themselves apart from the 360 in order to break away in the sales race in 2009 – one of them was to pledge more service toward home.  Currently,  Home has two gamespaces; one for “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” and one for “Farcry 2″. A “RE5″ space is somewhat more exciting considering that its’ gamespace could be with the game from day one. Players will be able to take part in various “RE5″ themed events – and I’m opening to hearing some suggestions any of you may have as to what those events could be. [Continue Reading]

Top 10 Reasons The Video Game Industry Is In Trouble

Yes I will do it! I’m the bearer of doom and gloom. Someone has to do it. While most publications are rife with BEST this and that about the industry, few are looking at what ails it. I intend to rectify this with my list and hopes for the fixes of my favorite hobby. Without further ado…

10. Sequelitis

Yes, the industry has gotten sick with it. Following Hollywood tit for tat video games, for the most part, have become wholly un-original. Before you come stampeding my way with torches, let me explain. I don’t mean original as in a new genre or way to play a game (ducking Wii-motes). I mean original as in a new IP (Intellectual Property). What happened to getting excited over new characters? All of the gaming icons we know were once new. Instead of creating new characters, we get the same ones for the fifth, sixth, and eleventh installments.  I subscribe to the financial reasoning of betting on a name that people know, but it also smacks in the face of how that character became popular in the first place. No! I don’t want to play as Dante anymore, at least not for a while. I’m tired of hopping around with Mario, can I get a new character? Everyone talks about how this year was so great for gaming, but virtually every game on the Best Sellers list is a sequel – GTAIV, MGS:4, DMC 4, GHWT, Rock Band 2, GOW2, Res: 2, Mario Kart, etc etc  (You know these titles so well I can abbreviate them) How about a year without any sequels and totally new IP? Wouldn’t that be refreshing… [Continue Reading]

Home! – Not a Glorified Chat Room?

Seriously, I love my ps3 and all but I saw the Home idea as a gimmick. Yea, hate me but that’s how I felt. Its’ a fact that communication via texting and messaging is enough but yea, users wouldn’t mind seeing impressions of other users mugs either.

Great, so enter Home. You have to wonder why Sony put the brakes on that thing, even when PH had edged other parts of the Empire to push more on the “community” aspect of gaming. So what do you do? Integrate actual “game-playing, side quests, and game content extras” ino the game Home System.

In addition to this expect to see all the advertising your eyes can handle. I’m not sure I understand the complaint about this but it has something to do with visual pollution. As a city dweller, you really can’t complain about visual pollution here but if you’re from other parts of the world where ads are at a minimum, I can understand why you might suffer from information overload.
