“Final Fantasy XIII” was released just before the Christmas holiday in Japan, and I was lucky enough to obtain a copy from The Land of the Rising Sun. The new installment takes a modernistic approach on it’s story telling, focusing more on more and the main story, and less on multiple side quests. Set between a small hovering moon pandemic with futuristic originality, and an abandoned planet, “Final Fantasy XIII” is stoked with drama and an underlying theme of fighting against your fate. E3 ‘09: Final Fantasy XIII US Revealed

In this extended trailer you not only get to see the Summons Shiva and Odin, but for the non-Otaku fans out there, this is the complete English voice over; with the English menu system. As you can see, from the summoning magic, it works a lot like Final Fantasy VII, per SquareEnix via a Charge-Gauge. Though the comparable system to FFVII wasn’t intentional, expect an even faster battle system than the one used in the Final Fantasy VII.

Ten Minutes In Heaven … A.K.A. Final Fantasy XIII

Hey guys, whats going on? I have an exciting video for you all today. Check it out below and you will see that it is the first ten minutes of the Japanese demo of “Final Fantasy XIII.” The game, which is running on the PS3, looks phenomenal. Game producer Yoshinori Kitase says that the game will be using nearly 100% of the PS3’s power, and, from the looks of it, he’s telling the truth. Even though the video is a little dark, the visuals seem to be some of the best I’ve seen for the system.

I’m not the biggest RPG fan (the only “FF” I’ve spent a good amount of time with was VIII) but this one is definitely going in my library and I can’t wait to scope it out. [Continue Reading]

FF XIII Trailer Out – Battle System Real Time??

Not the biggest news but it’s still worth mentioning. For sometime now, Square-Enix had a count down timer on their Asian and European sites. No love for the west. Still the internet has various ways to bring us together. No one new what the timer counted down to. Several guessed it was a trailer of some sort. The new item was due at 4PM GMT today 1/28/2009 (about 11AM EST). That means most of us were either at work, on our way to work, looking for work, or perhaps in bed thinking about work. Whatever the case was you should check out this new trailer. Finally, the battle system!! If you only care about that, then scrub the slider to 1:25 to see it in action.

This looks like FF XII to the 9th power. It’s obvious again that on screen seemless battles are back! While the reception for this had mixed reviews during Final Fantasy XII, I’m wondering if Square-Enix made any improvements to the system. Though I could hardly see any in this video, other than a graphical/speed/hype upgrade, I’m sure people will have good and bad to say about it. For me, it could be good.

What does it mean? If you navigate over to Square Enix’s Global hub, then push on through the Japanese section (yea I go there from time to time) you’ll notice this massive announcement. What’s the big deal? Well, boys and girls, looks like Square Enix is about to let loose more information on favorite titles. Yes, that includes Final Fantasy XIII.

In addition more information on that elusive bluray version of Advent Children. How long we wait to see cloud in 1080p action. DK ? 3713 (’D.K. Sigma Three-Seven-Thirteen’) means ‘Dissidia, Kingdom Hearts, Sigma Harmonics, The 3rd Birthday, Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children Complete, Final Fantasy 13′. Could they have been any more cryptic? Credit to a hardcore buddy of mines at GT for breaking this down for me.

Sadly, this event is only accessible if you are a Square Member, and then there’s a raffle … for one ticket. Not to mention it’s held in Tokyo. The promise of the event will bring about more footage on several of their upcoming titles.
