Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Producer Picks His Favorite Box Art

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Box Arts

When Japanese games get ported for a U.S. release they usually go through a lot of changes. There are the obvious ones like text localization, along with some less obvious ones like fixing bugs, but there’s usually one that is obvious to the consumer right away – the box art. When the changes for the U.S. release of “Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes” were announced it quickly became clear that the box art was going to have to change, simply based on the additions and subtractions to the roster, but the overall changes run a bit deeper than that. I recently had the opportunity to talk to the game’s producer, Ryota Niitsuma, about the box art differences between “Ultimate All-Stars” and “Cross Generation of Heroes,” and then had him pick his favorite … and you might be surprised by his selection. Indie Brawl Well On The Way – Three Characters Ready To Fight

Indie Brawl

When you leave a variety of game developers alone with talented artists, great things can happen like “Chrono Trigger,” “Resident Evil,” and countless other titles can become the fruits of their labor. The “Super Smash Bros.” series is one of those titles, and since its release the biggest minds in the independent gaming community have come together to release their own collaborative fighting game, “Indie Brawl.” After a lot of strain to secure rights from established producers of acclaimed independent games (some that are even lined up for an eventual Wii release), a bare-bones framework, with three characters now fully made. The Golden Knight from “Bonesaw,” the main marine-equse character from the platformer “Aquaira,” and a worm from the realtime strategy hit heavily inspired by “Worms,” Liero. [Continue Reading]

Tekken 6It seems like the fighting game genre is going through a renaissance of sorts. Returning with 40 characters, online, and a co-op campaign mode, “Tekken 6″ is sure to make fans of the series extremely happy. New Tekken 6 “Power is Everything” Trailer

Tekken 6

“Tekken 6″ can’t come soon enough. One of the greatest fighting franchises of all time is fast approaching with its sixth iteration, and the game is looking pretty sweet. Jin, Jun, Kuma, and – my personal favorite – Bryan, are all coming back with a vengeance, and it looks like all hell is going to break loose.

In the new trailer (after the jump) it appears as though Jin has all but succumbed to the devil gene, and looks completely badass after the transformation. While a full roster has not been released, there are a few new confirmed characters entering this year’s King of the Iron Fist tournament. You can get a look at new comers Leo, Bob Zafina and Miguel can all be seen in the trailer. Bob seems to be a Namco’s answer to Rufus from “Street Fighter 4.” [Continue Reading]

Street Fighter IV: Championship Edition Update

Capcom just sent us a lovely little email detailing some of the contents in the new update to “Street Fighter IV”; “Street Fighter IV – Championship Edition.” The name size increase in the title is geared towards “serious players”. I am puzzled by that statement because many would agree that those trial and challenge mode challenges aren’t meant for scrubs.  The new mode will expand the game by offering players the chance to compete in tournaments and to watch replays of the best tournament matches.  That’s awesome, now we can see worldwide beat downs and share it with friends. No word on how the sharing of said beat downs may occur though but expect to see rampant video postings of “look I can do this combo” and such on the internet.

I know what you’re saying, “damn, another add-on!”   Well fret not Wondering Warrior, it comes at no cost.  The Championship Mode update will be available for both PS3 and Xbox 360 owners on Friday, April 24 (times TBD) for free.  There will be 5 different grades of tournaments – “creating the right challenge for players of every skill level”.  You will score points for tournament wins, and as your total points grow you’ll get the chance to enter into bigger tournaments.

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Review: Bloody Fun

At first glance, “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” seems like it should have come out around 1998, to go head-to-head with the wildly popular “Marvel vs. Capcom” series, but, for whatever reason, it didn’t. Fast forward to today, and, through some wild twist of fate, or, possibly the will of the Elder Gods, 10 years after the game should have been released, gamers finally have the chance to kick Scorpion’s ass with Batman. On the plus side, waiting may have paid off; after a string of less-than-awesome “MK” games “MK vs. DC” may put the franchise back on track.

“Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” isn’t the best “MK” game ever released (that honor goes to “Mortal Kombat 2”), but there are some redeeming factors that might make fans that soured on the series years ago think twice about this iteration. A good deal of the game has been revamped, since “Armageddon” was released, taking full advantage of this generation of consoles. The controls, gameplay, graphics, and characters were all treated to a much-needed upgrade, and the improvements show over the course of the game. [Continue Reading]

Street Fighter 4:new Rufus and El Fuerte pics

Capcom has released some new images of Street Fighter 4, this time spot lighting two of the new characters, big bellied Rufus and lucha libre wrestler El Fuerte. Also, you can see two new stages, a jungle and a 50’s styled diner. In the bellow images, El Fuerte appears to have a move were he pulls out a frying pan? I guess they still have some comedic elements in this version as well. These pics are from the arcade version but I’m sure the ps3, pc, and x360 will be arcade perfect ports, and then some.
