NBA Jam Trailer Provides No Hope That The Beastie Boys Are Unlockables

Like a flashback to 1996, the new “NBA Jam” trailer looks like it’s going to stick true to the franchise’s form and deliver an amazing arcade basketball experience. The animation and gameplay both look like they’ve got potential to cause fights between you and your friends, and really, isn’t that what “NBA Jam” is all about – fights and being on fire. Oh, and Bill Clinton.

Dante’s Inferno Review: To Hell And Back

Dante's Inferno

Hell is a place that many different mediums have explored; movies, television, and comic books frequently venture to Catholicism’s home of eternal damnation. However, it’s a rich setting that hasn’t really been fully explored in video games, until now. Based on the classic poem by Dante Alighieri, “Dante’s Inferno” (the game) from EA, gives gamers the opportunity to step into the role of Dante as he journeys to the deepest sanctum of Lucifer to save his beloved. To steal a line from the marketing material, gamers can finally go to Hell. [Continue Reading]

The Saboteur Developer Interview: Like GTA, With Nazis

Saboteur
Everyone’s played a World War II game by now, so how do you make it different? “Mercenaries” devs Pandemic are sure doing their best to make their upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 title, “The Saboteur” feel different than anything else you’ve played before. While it may not be an entirely different take on the event, it has a completely original look and feel that should offer gamers a unique experience when it hits stores on December 8th. EA was recently in NYC showing off the game, and Unit had a chance to speak with Corey Lewis from Pandemic about what we can expect when the game drops in a few weeks. [Continue Reading]

Skate Returns in 2010

Skate 3

I grew up with the Tony Hawk franchise. Like many gamers around my age, I can remember hearing about the game from various friends, and how cool it made you feel shredding insane lines. When I finally got my hands on the game, I was hooked, along with millions of others. Sadly, in true Activision form, they knew they had a hit on their hands, and over the next ten years they would milk the Tony Hawk franchise to death, thus opening the door for other, more innovative skating titles.

Enter the “Skate” franchise, one of the freshest takes on a genre since “Metroid Prime” took the gaming world by storm. The success of “Skate” is no secret and “Skate 2″ was hailed by some as one of the best follow-up sport games of all time. Now, not to be outdone by Activision, EA is trying to get as much out of their successful skating franchise as quickly as possible, and earlier today, they announced that the newest entry in the “Skate” franchise, entitled… “Skate 3,” will be available for retail in May of 2010. Madden NFL 10 Review: Rejoice… Madden Is Fun Again

Madden NFL 10

When it comes to my sports video games, let’s just say this gamer doesn’t “play around.” I had high hopes for this year’s pigskin kingpin, also known as “Madden NFL 10,” as early reports said that this year’s game made tremendous strides in every aspect of the game, and I couldn’t agree more. G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra Review: YO JOE!

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

Oh, “G.I. Joe,” what am I going to do with you? When I originally heard that there was going to be a live-action movie based off of a beloved cartoon of my youth, I was a little concerned that they weren’t going to be able to pull it off. I have yet to see the movie, but I’ve heard good things. However, when I heard that there was going to be a game based off of that same movie I was a little more skeptical. I retained high hopes that, even though the game was based on a summer blockbuster that it might manage to still be good, even though the industry’s track record tends to fall a little short in that area. I even crossed my fingers for some kind of throwbacks to the original cartoons. EA managed to cover at least half of my hopes. [Continue Reading]

Family Game Night Review Amendment: Sorry! Sliders

Sorry! Sliders

It’s always interesting to play an alternate take on a game that you grew up with, but never knew existed. When I was but a wee child, my favorite board game was always SORRY! (it would have been Mouse Trap, but mine was always missing a key piece of the trap), and, up until the recent release of “Sorry! Sliders” as part of Hasbro’s “Family Game Night” compilation for Xbox Live I didn’t know this particular take on the game I loved existed. Its mere existence means it’s worth a look, even though pretty much the only thing that the two games have in common is their name. [Continue Reading]

Fight Night Round 5 Wishlist: The Changes That Need To Be Made

Fight Night

It’s almost a given that EA will continue the “Fight Night” franchise, most likely indefinitely, and with every new game there had better be some improvements. “Round 4″ saw a great update to the career mode, but what will “Round 5″ hold? After some time with the game, here’s what I’m hoping to see next time around.

All in all, for as much as I enjoyed “Fight Night Round 4,” I think what it suffered from the most (much like my big issue with “Tiger Woods 10″) was the career mode lacks PERSONALITY. Why EA sports doesn’t use their exclusive ESPN license to its full capacity is beyond me, but I can think of a couple of incredible things they can add, to make the next effort that much more amazing.
