Dead Space Too Scary Says Producer

deadspace-2

For those of you who loved Dead Space for it’s ability to scare the living day lights out of you, you are in for a surprise.  It looks like the producer of Dead Space 2, Steve Papoutsis, does not feel the same way.

Awesome New Dead Space Wii Level Play-Through Footage…

I think it’s safe to say that EA hasn’t gimped the franchise for the Wii. Just take a look for yourself at this full level play through courtesy of IGN!

Dead Space Extraction: New Gameplay Footage

The fine folks over at IGN Nintendo managed to get an updated hands on with the new Dead Space incarnation for the Wii. I really enjoyed the original game on Xbox 360 and feel it is better than RE 5 in so many ways. The last time I gripped a controller with fright was in RE 4. The guys over at EA nailed everything that makes a horror game good. That’s why I am looking forward to this prequel of sorts for the Wii. And the fact that it’s an on rails shooter is something I don’t mind since the first game is still fresh on the market. From the video, one can definitely see that they have managed to some how pull of visuals almost close to what was on the Xbox and PS3 versions of Dead Space. That will make any fan of the game a happy camper. EA promises some new and interesting gameplay mechanics to add to the game to set it apart from the other version as well as retaining all that made the game good and scary. Either way, after seeing some new gameplay, I am pretty convinced this will be a good addition to what looks to become a very good franchise.

Top 10 Games of 2008 Needing Sequels

You might calls this image 'ironic'...

Lists, huh? We all love them. They help us fit our lives into neat, comfortable boxes. God forbid I should hit you with a series of titles devoid of any specific structure or numerical hierarchy. The World would surely stop turning, the sky would switch places with the sea, and Nintendo would unveil their idealistic vision for a strictly hardcore-gaming future. Well, I plan to save the world from such disarray, with my list of top 10 games demanding a sequel or continuation.

Note: I’ve included games on this list which are, in fact, sequels in themselves. So, to be absolutely correct, this is a compilation of games I feel demand sequels AND games which should, by all rights, see continuations in their respective franchises.

Top 10 Games of 2008 That I Didn’t Play

As each year goes by, it feels like the number of good games released over those 12 months just keeps rising. This year was no different. I would argue that it saw a bigger increase than previous years largely because of the influx of quality casual and indie games. I think nearly every gamer missed out on a game they planned to get because they didn’t have the time, or saw yet another awesome game and just didn’t have the resources to cop it. I was definitely a victim. I’m closing out the year with empty pockets, plenty of great games, and a stupid-long list of games I really wanted to play and didn’t.

This is the top 10 games from that list:

10. Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy

Why I wanted it: It was a movie-licensed game that didn’t suck. Bonus: I actually liked the movies.

Why I didn’t play it: It just barely missed the must-buy list. It got some decent reviews, but something about buying a game where the title includes a full name that isn’t Tom Clancy or Sid Meier made my stomach turn.

9. de Blob

Why I wanted it: Who can resist a fun platformer where the plot centers on putting a smack-down on conformity? Not to mention, their marketing blitz blind-sided me a couple of times in the backfield.

Why I didn’t play it: I must confess–I have been neglecting my Wii. I won’t let myself buy another Wii game until I finish “Zelda: Twilight Princess” and “Metriod Prime 3: Corruption.”

8. Soulcalibur IV

Why I wanted it: “Soulcalibur” has made a healthy impression on me with every game since the original was released for Dreamcast. Ivy’s Snake Sword and Maxi’s Nunchucks (I am a huge Michelangelo of TMNT fan) sealed the deal pretty much every time. A little hint of Star Wars doesn’t hurt either.

Why I didn’t play it: Lately I just haven’t had the urge to play fighting games. Seems like those Street-Fighter-II-Turbo-at-birthday-parties-and-sleepovers glory days have faded. Plus, fighting games just aren’t the same when your opponent isn’t in the room with you.

7. Dead Space

Why I wanted it: I always wanted to be trapped on a dark space station with limited ammo and vicious creatures, who would love to rip my body into nice happy meat chunks…

Why I didn’t play it: WHAT!?!?! I am not scared to play this game…

6. Ninja Gaiden II

Why I wanted it: Ninja + Speed + Buckets of Blood = Fun

Why I didn’t play it: This is the first (but not last) game on this list that I am truly puzzled about. I think I just didn’t have 60 bucks to shell out when it was released. [Continue Reading]

Dead Space Review: The Final Frontier

What’s going on peoples? DaveDaGamer here giving you a little dirt on “Dead Space.”

First and foremost I want to say, EA glad you are back, we’ve dearly missed you. You may or not know this, but back in the last gen, EA put out an impressive list of quality titles that had graphics and ambiance that were far above and beyond what other studios offered. I’m not talking about the EA Sports brand either, there have been such gems as “The Lord of the Rings,” “Harry Potters,” some of the “James Bond” games, “Medal of Honor,” et al.

But along the way they began to buy out a lot of smaller developers and started putting out crap. (”Catwoman” need I say more?) Fortunately, it looks like they might have gotten their act together with “Dead Space.” [Continue Reading]

Dead Space: Downfall animated prequel

EA and Starz Media have announced Dead Space Downfall, the feature length animated movie prequel to the upcoming horror game. The release of this DVD and Blu-ray will be around the same time as the games release in October.

Downfall tells the Dead Space story from the end of the comic book series to the beginning of the game, detailing the finding of an alien artifact on a mining colony and its affect on those near it.

DEADSPACE – COMIC 02 & 03 HD

Enter Parts II and III of the Dead Space Comic written by Anthony Johnston and Ben Templesmith. You can catch episode I here if you would like to brush up.

Episode II takes place right after events of the discovery of the holy relic, the Marker, and explores the continuing effects that it is having on the planet-mining colony.

In Episode III, things start getting a little … funky as the colonists get closer to planet-crack. The hallucinations start taking a hold on just about everyone in the colony, especially the religious sect, and there behavior gets more hostile, frantic, and insane.

DEADSPACE – COMIC 01 HD

OMG, can it get any deeper than this? A few months back, the developers for Dead Space said that the story for its next action-space-survival-horror was deep … they weren’t kidding. As for the kids, please be advised, this comic is laced with explicit, explicit language. “Something damn strange is going on around here.”
