Fight Night Round 5 Wishlist: The Changes That Need To Be Made

Fight Night

It’s almost a given that EA will continue the “Fight Night” franchise, most likely indefinitely, and with every new game there had better be some improvements. “Round 4″ saw a great update to the career mode, but what will “Round 5″ hold? After some time with the game, here’s what I’m hoping to see next time around.

All in all, for as much as I enjoyed “Fight Night Round 4,” I think what it suffered from the most (much like my big issue with “Tiger Woods 10″) was the career mode lacks PERSONALITY. Why EA sports doesn’t use their exclusive ESPN license to its full capacity is beyond me, but I can think of a couple of incredible things they can add, to make the next effort that much more amazing. Fight Night Round 4 Review: Toe-To-Toe In The Ring

Fight Night Round 4

In EA’s inevitable attempt to continue to capitalize on their franchises, “Fight Night Round 4″ is ready to step into the ring, and build on the beloved franchise built by the new defunct EA Chicago. I have been waiting for this game since I first played “Fight Night Round 3,” and even though there was a lot of good in that game, the the career mode was absolutely horrible. So, after a few years of holding my breath, it’s finally time touch gloves, and come out swinging in “Fight Night Round 4.” [Continue Reading]

Punch-Out!! Review: Back In The Ring With A Vengeance

Punch-Out!!

It’s always been amazing to me how some video game franchises can withstand the test of time, and others just fade away. It’s been 15 years since gamers have been able to get their hands on a new “Punch-Out!!” game from Nintendo, but with the release of the Wii everything old is new again (except “Kid Icarus” apparently). Whether it’s your first time stepping into the ring with Little Mac, or just your first time since Nintendo felt the need to put the word “super” in the title of all their games (even the not so super ones), “Punch-Out!!” on the Wii is a welcome experience. Fight Night Round 4 Preview: Round 2 – The Gameplay

On Friday, Davedagamer gave you our first look at what could be the most realistic fighting game ever released, “Fight Night Round 4″ from EA. Today we’ve got video of Dave going head to head with “Fight Night”’s producer, Brian Hayes. Find out if he can hold his own in the ring, or if he’s got to spend a few more hours with the speed bag.

Ready 2 Rumble Revolution Impressions: Back In The Ring

r2r
Since it was announced a few weeks ago, Atari’s upcoming arcade-style boxing game for the Wii, “Ready 2 Rumble Revolution” has been fighting an uphill battle. It has more than a few things working against it, that it is going to need to overcome in order to change some minds about the game. Surprisingly, it only took about 15 minutes, and two matches to prove to me that the game is going to be better than I thought, which is great, but that’s not really saying much about what my expectations were.

It’s not “R2RR”’s fault that my standards may have been low, it’s just that I’m one of the fans of the original series that was really hoping to see “Ready 2 Rumble: Round 3” come out, and go head-to-head with EA’s “Facebreaker,” and show it who’s boss. The thing is, this game is a re-envisioning of Midway’s franchise that many arcade boxing fans hold near and dear, to their hearts, and it isn’t it “Ready 2 Rumble 3,” and that’s because it’s not meant to be. Ready 2 Rumble Revolution’s Sweet King and The Pugliator Square Off In Exclusive Trailer

Atari’s new arcade boxing game “Ready 2 Rumble Revolution” for the Wii is the latest in the series that has a colorful history of characters, from cover boy Afro Thunder to Michael Jackson. The newest iteration of the game doesn’t have any of the classic characters, but introduces a whole new cast of fighters – many of which appear to have taken their inspiration from well-known celebrities. For example, take the two boxers in our exclusive trailer below, Sweet King and The Puglitator, one appears to be based on Vanilla Ice’s worst nightmare, and the other looks like one of the best dressed men in comedy, but I’ll let you be the judge of that. Check out this exclusive look at “Ready 2 Rumble Revolution” for the Wii.

FaceBreaker Review: Something’s Gonna Break Soon

You know them, and you love them, even if you don’t like boxing, arcade boxing games. Titles like “Punch-Out!!,” “Ready to Rumble” bubble very quickly to the top of the list of the greatest boxing games of all time, rising above many, much more advanced and realistic fighting games. It’s a tough genre for games to break into and in comparison to those games “FaceBreaker” does fall short, but that’s because everyone’s expectations were so high, but that doesn’t make it a bad game.

At a very basic level, “FaceBreaker” is a fun game, as long as you’re up for the challenge. It’s definitely not a sim, like the “Fight Night” series, but it’s a lot more challenging than other arcade boxers. Even on easy, it’s going to take a lot of practice just to get past your first opponent. The game forces you to master not only the offensive techniques, but also the much more important defensive techniques – dodging and parring are supremely important in “FaceBreaker” if you want to make it anywhere. Needless to say, when playing against the computer, “FaceBreaker” is brutal unless you know what you’re doing, it’s not a pick up and play game. However, if you’re looking to mangle your best friend’s face, that’s a whole different story.

“FaceBreaker” may be one of the best party games to come out this year if you’re looking for something to play with a bunch of your friends that isn’t a mini-game compilation. It’s casual enough for all your buddies to enjoy, but not so casual that you feel like it’s too dumb or easy to play to the point where you feel like it’s a waste of time. There is even a built in local tournament mode set up for more than just two people so that everyone can be a part of the fun. Besides, it’s boxing, everyone likes to beat the snot out of their friends… virtually at least. [Continue Reading]
