NBA Jam Trailer Provides No Hope That The Beastie Boys Are Unlockables

Like a flashback to 1996, the new “NBA Jam” trailer looks like it’s going to stick true to the franchise’s form and deliver an amazing arcade basketball experience. The animation and gameplay both look like they’ve got potential to cause fights between you and your friends, and really, isn’t that what “NBA Jam” is all about – fights and being on fire. Oh, and Bill Clinton.

2K Sports is putting a little different spin on their NBA 2K series this year by offering gamers a chance to create a character, and bring them up through the NBA Draft Combine. You get to go from a no-name kid in the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network downloadable title, and then get them in the NBA right by carrying them over when 2K drops “NBA 2K10″ this October.

Our own resident sports fan Grey recently had a chance to sit down and talk with “NBA 2K Draft Combine” poster-boy, and Chicago Bull, Derrick Rose, about the game, Kobe, the Xbox 360 vs. the PS3, and candy? NBA Jam Retro Review: From The Hoopsters That Brought You Mortal Kombat

NBA JAMIt could have been one of the most interesting ad campaigns in the history of video games; NBA greats like Larry Johnson, Patrick Ewing, or Dee Brown simply discussing just how fun of “NBA Jam” is. Use your imagination… I’ll give you a minute. The pinnacle of arcade basketball games was released by Midway and published by Acclaim in 1993 for most of the major consoles and handhelds at the time, with ports for both sides of the Nintendo/Sega console war. The game was so popular in arcades that it spawned a handful of “sequels,” which were basically just updates to the system, and expanded on the “NBA Jam” brand with “Tournament Edition” and “NBA Jam Extreme” until they removed all the fun, and called the game “NBA Primetime on NBC.” Through it all, “NBA Jam” carried a little extra clout due to the fact that the arcade version of basketball was more interesting then normal basketball. Hi Ho the Ballers are back! Baseball is winding down, and we’ve all been busting heads on the gridiron in Madden and now comes the bright lights of the NBA. The two heavyweights of the division are back with their 09’ editions and we are about to hit you with the down low on NBA Live 09’ featuring Tony Parker and NBA2k9 anchored by the now “certified” Kevin Garnett.

First I have to let you know right now. This isn’t really a fair fight. NBA2k9 is the better game… PERIOD.
