Monster Hunter Frontier Site Up – Are PS3 Fans Still Baffled?

monsterHunterFrontier

Wow! That’s the first thing that comes to my mind when I saw the new Monster Hunter Frontier web site.  If you haven’t heard already, Monster Hunter Frontier will hit the 360 sometime this year.  For those of you who don’t know what Monster Hunter is exactly, it is as the title suggests; players take on the role of a hunter in a fantasy environment and complete quests by seeking out monsters to hunt or capture. Originally released on PlayStation 2, the game was a cult, and then a raving success in Japan.

A PlayStation Portable and PC version were later released and what was a rave turned into an epidemic.  Capcom had taken on the project of building a PlayStation 3 version for the franchise but several of you already know that that project was canned.  Even though the title was promised some time around the release of Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 it never saw the light of day.  Ah well, c’est la vie.  What is even more crazy is how the 360 got involved in all this. Perhaps when you consider the PC version of the game spreading to even more gamers, it might make sense given how compatible XBox360 and PC games could be.  While I know a few people who actually picked up the PS3 for this game, it’s a shame for them as their dreams “may” have been thoroughly crushed.  If you want to see more about the game, click the image below to get to the Japanese Capcom site for Monster Hunter Frontier.

As you all know, the XBox 360 is not the most popular machine in Japan but this is perhaps a great way to those numbers to go up.  You will most likely need a Gold level account (at least) plus the ability to pay a monthly fee to play to game.  Famitsu that the cost for this at about $15 US dollars.  I wonder if PSNs’ lack of a monthly/yearly pricing structure has anything to do with it?  PS3 gamers may speculate all they want but Capcom is cashing in on this game event though PSN does not support.  Note: At this time (1/26/2010), PSN is still.  I just have one question for Capcom though … Why?

    Well SE and Namco didn’t do it for the 360 in Japan with all their Jrpgs. Looks like Microsoft finally found the right company ( Capcom ) to make an attempt to have the 360 appeal to Japanese users.

    @MaideninBlack,
    that’s perhaps the idea on M$ part. it’s not like the system is that popular over there … although I have a few Japanese friends in Tokyo who have purchased the unit for XBLA and specific games.

    WTF? i have all three systems sorry MS but some games are just Japanese. its not even intresting that this gmae is on 360. other big titles that wwere supposed to be on ps3 are on the 360 and look what they did. this games sells 500,000 and comes to ps3 in a year to sell almost 2 ,million. . why are so many companies f-ing ps3 users. look ps3 has more games and we are going to play the system but this third party stuff needs to stop. i feel like as a ps3 owner capcom owes us for this one.

    CAPCOM i’mnot going to buy your monster hunter, there goes one less sale. start treating gamers fairer chit we keep you in business. MS stop spending moneyon games and buy some damn studios. atleast set your selves up for the next gen.

    @keys,
    Why isn’t it interesting? A prime example of how this game works is FF XII’s monster hunting game. The difference is you do it with others on line. There’s also some serious strategy involve in tackling the monsters.

    It’s not the game of all games but it does pass the time well. I know a few others like yourself that re-acted the same way. Some were actually waiting for Monster Hunter given it’s WOW like status in Japan and in niche markets over here.

    I bought a ps3 for Monster hunter 3 which was supposed to release for the ps3. Now im without it, very saddened.That’s fine if it releases on the other consoles, but i will always wait for a monster hunter for the playstation console be it 2, 3, or 4 etc.I prefer the sony console and its controller over any other console.The 360 controllers feel really weird to me.As for wii, the online support isnt that great, and the controller is okay..I bought monster hunter on the ps2 on the day it released, was really looking forward to it. and now, the online servers are taken down a few years back or so.Even if i wish to play it on the ps2, or putting it in the ps3, all i can do is offline. which is just not the same.Psp, is not the same as well.Just limited to a few players, and you need to be in range of each other.Buying a ps3 back in the day, was more than 600$ with the warranty.so spending that much for one game is a hell a lot.I know, buying a system for one single game is not the wisest.But there are lot of future options that were on their way, and sony has always been my preferred choice of console.I enjoyed playing some games on the 360, like Halo, Gears, but some people cannot just go out and buy all 3 consoles.There’s just not enough time for all of them.and people prefer consoles for certain reasons.I will always prefer the Sony Playstation(s), especially the ps3, which can also run the ps2 library of games i still have with me.But, monster hunter will always remain in my heart as one of my favourite games, especially one of the only mmorpg type games, even though it doesnt compare to WoW etc.It was a fantastic journey where my friends and I had great moments and lots of fun. There was a official petition thread for bringing back mh to the ps3, google it up, im sure you all can sign up for it for those who want it back.I bet theres a lot, seeing how many people used to be online in the days.I will never buy a MH for any other console, for my own reasons until it comes out for the one and only console i will keep at my place.Oh, well, until it comes back to its roots, I’ll just keep dreaming. = )

    I have never had a reason to not like Capcom…till now.

    I hope it sells terribly and they realize that people that own a Wii would rather play pokemon and people on 360 would rather play Halo.

    Way to snub your fanbase.
