HD DVD vs Blue Ray..and the plot thickens!
So after the announcment that Paramount and Dreamworks were going the HD DVD route, Micheal Bay of Transformers fame had gotten upset and and posted a comment on his blog about not doing a Transformers 2. After talking with Paramount about their choice in format, he reposted on his blog a new statement.
” Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three blu-ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.
As a director, I’m all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.
So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks!
So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!
Michael Bay”
Now I can understand where he is coming from as a film director, but what I find even more interesting is the fact that HD DVD players around the $200 dollar mark will be releasing soon onto the market. If anyone with enough sense knows, $200 is the sweet spot for consumers on the edge. This could ultimately change the outcome of the format wars as we know it! Sony, if your listening, you better bring out a cheap Blue-Ray player quick because PS3’s are not selling fast enough to support the format. When that cheap HD DVD player drops on the market, it’s gonna sting pretty bad.

Suki Suki NOW!!!
What do you know? Just when people were ready to name HD DVD dead, a scant two weeks later this monumental news threatens to shake the “War” to it’s foundation. (AVAILABILITY) People were screaming how much BluRay out sold HD DVD, negating the fact that a lot of those spikes came from PS3 owners, well guess what? HD DVD has begun to reel of a string of wins. Heroes Box set exclusive… Transformers and Shrek 3, plus scores more. The mighty Sony still has Spidey, but lets stop this before someone gets hurt. (LoL)
I just copped my HD DVD addon for the XBOX 360 last week, and I must say the price $179 plus King Kong in the box, made it real attractive to me to just get it. Why? Cause I’m waiting on Heroes next week. Now if it was $500+ I would NOT have bought it. So can you imagine when the standalone players hit that price? Fugetaboutit.
What I said a long time ago is coming to fruition. No one cares if you can store 50 gigs on a single disc if the image of the movie is still the same. Oh yeah that makes me wonder? If BluRay were all that superior in Storage Capacity, why is it that Planet Earth is on 4 discs just like it’s HD DVD counterpart?
Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
