Golden Joystick Awards 2009

As you know or may not know, the 27th annual Golden Joystick awards has just finished, and the video games industry was recognized as the fastest-growing entertainment medium, with the UK being acknowledged as a center of creative excellence today, as the winners of the world’s most popular video game awards show.

“Fallout 3″ was crowned “Ultimate Game of the Year,” whilst “Call of Duty” continued its annual winning streak with a hat-trick of accolades. There was a strong showing this year for UK titles such as:

The PS3 title LittleBigPlanet winning “Family Game of the Year”
And Rockstar North picking up “Handheld Game of the Year” with “Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars” for the Nintendo DS
“UK Developer of the Year” going to Cambridge company Jagex makers of Runsecape. Seeing overwhelming popularity for the free to play MMORPG.

Can you guess who won the “One to watch” award? “Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2″ of course! Which, looks set to dominate the Christmas period.

The Golden Joystick Awards themselves were officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the “World’s Most Popular Video Game Awards,” with a massive 1,223,646 votes this year.
