I’ve Never Played a Final Fantasy; Shall We Give It a Go? Continued…

There are several hallmarks of truly a great game. I’m not planning on voicing them all now, but there is one that in particular that applies, even now, to “Final Fantasy 7″; any game that can anchor you to one spot for in excess of six hours has to be good, whether or not you can figure out exactly why. The only reason I can deduce, other than the hypnotic effect of the art design, is that its one of those “greater than the sum of its parts” scenarios.

Less Than Five Days Until Modern Warfare 2: Why Failure Is Impossible

“Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” came out almost exactly two years ago, and took the shooter market by storm. It has since become the absolute standard port of call for the FPS genre, with its tight, intuitive console control scheme and deep, multi-layered online achievement system. In a matter of days, Infinity Ward intends to unleash their new monster, “Modern Warfare 2,” and I’d like to take a moment to outline why it simply won’t go wrong for them. [Continue Reading]

Assassin’s Creed: Lineage

I’m going to share with you one of my pet hates, and one which has proliferated quite substantially over the last few years; full CG game trailers, and I’m sure I’m not alone. I’m talking about the tendency of many of today’s game devs to come to events such as E3, bearing little more than proof that their tech department can make a pretty, computer generated wondershow to keep us all slack jawed for three and half minutes; no gameplay footage, perhaps a few scant allusions to plot, essentially an nice looking intro cutscene that will most certainly never be an intro cutscene. Many games to appear at E3 this year already carry this mark of shame, and Assassins Creed 2 is no exception. But now it appears Ubisoft wish to go a step further in their dalience with total f*cking pointlessness, hence Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, a serial of three short films based in the warped Renaissance Italy gameworld, the first of which aired on Youtube last night.

I’ve Never Played a Final Fantasy; Shall We Give It a Go?

Apparently the fact that Final Fantasy XIII is making its way to Xbox 360 as well as PS3 next spring has been  a subject of much controversy since the announcement at E3 last year. A few days ago I was talking about the Playstation steadily losing the strings to its bow, and if I’m to believe the hysteria, then the Final Fantasy series must represent some sort of coup. Despite growing up on Playstation, not to mention all of the above, I personally have never played a single game in this series, something I have been led to believe to be absolute sacrilege for the last few years. So f*ck it I thought; why spend time getting good and depressed about my dying hero when I can stuff my cheeks with cotton buds and drown myself in nostalgia. [Continue Reading]

Petition To Stop PlayStation Network Charging For Online

Yesterday I received a circular from someone on PlayStation Network; it was a petition detailing that PSN where going to start charging for use of the systems online capabilities. I tried to take this with a pinch of salt, but a small amount of digging showed it to be more than just harmless rambling.
